Ray Bulson is a full-time freelance photographer and owner of Wilderness Visions, Inc. He has been photographing for 35 years and two of his images were included in NANPA's Top 250 winners for their 2020 Showcase competition and one image in the Top 100 winners in the 2021 competition. represents Ray Bulson Photography, a collection of fine art and stock nature photos of Alaska including landscapes, panoramas, wildflowers, and wildlife. Services include classroom instruction, on-location workshops, and webinars. Besides fine art, Ray also shoots stock photography and is published in print and electronic media such as The New York Times, National Geographic Viajes, Alaska Magazine, Anchorage Daily News, Digital Camera Magazine, Stern Magazine, Nature Photographer Magazine, Nature Photographers Online Magazine, Delaware Beach Life Magazine, The Best of Nature Photography and many others. Autumn's End - after shedding their leaves, the bare birch trees look like the bleached bones of a long-dead animal. The leaf cover on the ground will decay into rich organic soil. Peats and bogs, like this one surrounding Cottonwood Creek, are a large carbon sink helping to regulate climate.

The tidal flats of Knik Arm are filled with glacial silt from the Knik and Matanuska Glaciers. Tide swings in Alaska are among the highest in the world. Here the difference between low tide and high tide was 24 feet. That shows you how much silt has accumulated!

A nearly full moon and waves create what looks like bioluminescent algae in the waters of Paxson Lake as the aurora dances overhead on this late August night.

This photo also shows the Eastern Alaska Range in the background which has received 2-3 feet of snow this week from a massive winter storm. Down at the lower elevations where I live we got a mere six inches.

When a location has potential I will often return again and again to see what other photos I can generate. In this case, time is of the essence because here in Alaska this water and the reflection will soon be frozen over. A couple of weeks ago I posted a photo with fall colors and striking clouds. On this day there wasn't a cloud to be found.
