A love to last all time 🤎

One of my brides from this year gifted her parents a mini session with me and it was so sweet to see them be so playful and fun. We were all laughing and just had the best time.

Often it’s new love that takes the spotlight. Our feeds flood with proposals, engagement sessions, weddings…

But this? This is something to behold. A love that’s comfortable, that’s settled, that’s weathered many things. A love that knows what they’re thinking at a glance, the way you wouldn’t have known exactly what it meant 20 years ago. A love that has created life and left its legacy.

A love like that is so special and it’s such an honor to witness it.
Thank you for frolicking in the snow with me, Amie & Kris! I hope these photos are cherished forever. ❄️

What does a roll of film look like?

For 35mm film, a roll contains 36 frames (photos.) This is an entire roll of film shot between my husband and I in Seward back in September to document some beach time for my kiddo’s birthday. This isn’t client work, it’s from my own personal catalog of memories.

But I want you to see, to pay attention.

There’s a few frames out of focus. Some with unflattering angles, some near-duplicate shots. It’s not as curated as digital images where you’re selecting a few dozen golden frames from hundreds of images.

But film is slower. It’s more intentional. The imperfections are what create the feeling of nostalgia and authenticity.

Sometimes with film not every frame comes out. Sometimes there’s an error in shooting, developing, someone is blinking in an image or something moves at the last minute when taking the photo, leaving an image unusable. So we must keep in mind a margin of error - so that even if your photographer shoots a whole roll of film during your time together, there may be a few frames that don’t work out - and that’s okay.

Because film is irreplaceable. No filter can mimic it, no digital camera can duplicate the sound of the shutter, or produce the same feeling of a moment…

It’s perfectly real in its imperfections. It’s an extra telling of the story. It’s the perfect addition to your session.
