I met Alexis in 2018 through wedding wire when she was looking for a wedding photographer.
Since, we have become friends. She spotted me on many shoots, holding lights and reflector disks as she learned photography and even babysat little rem once for me.
Now, 8 years later, I got to take her photos as she graduates as a nurse.
She and Josh (swipe for the supportive husband shot) will forever be two of my faves. And she even shares a birthday with my mavi mae.

I love contrast in images, but what about the contrasts of life?

This is my new favorite photo series.

The first one was taken 2 season ago…and as I took it, it broke my heart. It was literally captioned: “ugh. My happy boy.” On Facebook. Without going into it, It was a tough season. Yet, Re*****on has an uncanny ability to find happiness even through mental muck. And we see him smiling through it.

The second image is the pure joy that comes from being seen. This year has been so different than any he’s played before in so many ways, but his happiness is flowing vs forced. And it makes my mama heart emotional in a good way.

The best and worst part is, he needed both seasons for his own personal contrast. He gets to know the contrast of hard earned joy vs natural joy because he pushed for his own happiness when it was hard to feel.

Contrast is rarely a bad thing. It reminds us how dark darks can go and how light the light feels once we make it to the other side of the pendulum. ⚖️

The original day we wanted to shoot was WINDY. 🌬️ wind is one of those elements I can’t stand for photos because it limits the direction you can shoot, assuming you have hair. 😜

So we rescheduled.

Mother Nature paid us back ten fold by painting the sky. ✨🌅 🥰
