8/14/2026 marks 12 years since I lost my husband Bryce to su***de.
Su***de needs to be talked about to prevent it. We all have mental health, and far too many people and families are impacted by this every day.
Bryce lived with depression, much of it out of sight to many of us. He showed up every day, just like so many of us do, carrying more than others could see. Always had a contagious smile and laugh that brought so much joy to so many. Got down to our daughters level to play, be dressed up, or made up, never told them no. Made ever day an adventure for our family.
I know that right now it may feel like a lot.
Life. Work. Family. The world around us. Expectations. Everything.
It’s a lot.
At any given moment, people around us are carrying more than we realize, doing their best with what’s in front of them.
So this is just a reminder, for anyone who needs it;
It’s okay to not be okay.
It’s okay to take a step back.
It’s okay to take care of yourself.
It’s okay to ask for help.
You don’t have to carry everything alone.
I’m here too.
For me today, that looks like keeping things simple… drawing, writing, getting outside for a walk, bike ride or run, and taking a little time to just be.
What’s one small thing you’re doing to take care of yourself today?
If you’re going through something right now, you’re not alone.
You can get through this.
Things can get better.
Tomorrow is a new day.
And if things ever feel heavier than you can handle on your own, support is there. In the U.S., you can call or text 988 any time.
First, take care of yourself. Reading this and checking in on someone else matters.
And no pressure, but if you feel like doing more today and want to support AFSP Minnesota’s life-saving mission and my Grandma’s 50th anniversary marathon run, here’s my link:
