A few shots from my short trip to Istanbul.

Every single one was taken with my older iPhone 13 Pro. Old, but definitely not obsolete. ;)

There were plenty of moments when I really wished I had a “real” camera with me, so some shots only live in my memory. But I’m glad I can share the rest with you. :)

DJI Mini 5, Mavic 4, Air3s, Neo2 or Matrice family? Do you own one of these drones?

The FCC is accepting public comments on PS Docket No. 26-189. Comments are due on or before September 2, 2026.

If this proposal moves forward as written, some foreign-made drones and drone components could be blocked from future importation and marketing in the U.S. That means pilots may not be able to buy certain drones, replacement units, or critical components through normal U.S. channels. It could also make service, repair, and parts availability much harder over time.

Bonney Lake Triathlon on Lake Tapps.

Yes, I know. It sounds a little confusing. 😄

Here’s the geography lesson nobody asked for:

The triathlon is hosted by Raise the Bar in the city of Bonney Lake. The swimming portion takes place in Lake Tapps. And just to keep things interesting, part of the running course includes a loop around another lake actually called Bonney Lake.

So: Bonney Lake Triathlon. In Bonney Lake. Swimming in Lake Tapps. Running around Bonney Lake.

Totally clear now, right? 😂

And as if the morning wasn’t already beautiful enough, Mount Rainier was fully out, watching over the race, and a few Seattle Ballooning hot air balloons were floating near the lake in the distance.

Triathlon, mountains, lakes, and hot air balloons all in one morning. Washington was definitely showing off. 😄

Istanbul is crazy.

Millions of people living their lives in one enormous city. Crowded streets, endless traffic, ferries crossing the Bosphorus, trams squeezing through neighborhoods, people everywhere. It feels like Istanbul never really stops.

But early in the morning, it becomes a completely different city.

The streets are still quiet. Fishermen are already along the water. People are gathering for prayer. The first trams are making their way through almost empty streets.

The city is awake, just not loud yet.

Maybe this is the only time Istanbul is truly quiet. Just a short moment before millions of people step outside and the beautiful chaos starts all over again.

Early morning in Istanbul. The city is still quiet, the streets are almost empty, and the morning light is just beginning to reach the mosques, rooftops, and the Bosphorus. Definitely worth waking up early for. 📸

Flying a drone here, though, is a completely different adventure. 😅

I spent quite a bit of time trying to understand where you can legally fly in Turkey, especially around historic Istanbul. The rules are complicated, information for foreign recreational pilots is limited, and Turkey also seems to be in a transition between different systems and regulations. Even finding a reliable public map showing where you can and cannot fly is surprisingly difficult.

It really makes me appreciate tools like Aloft that we have back in the U.S., where checking airspace before a flight is so much more straightforward.

So this trip has been a mix of photography, exploring Istanbul… and doing a LOT of homework before even thinking about putting a drone in the air. 😄

Happy World Photography Day! 📷✨

Today feels like a good moment to simply say **thank you**.

Thank you to this incredible creative community for the inspiration, encouragement, conversations, likes, comments, shares, and all the little moments of support that keep creativity moving forward.

Photography has taught me to notice more. Light. Faces. Weather. Small details. Unexpected moments that last only a few seconds.

And I’m grateful for every one of those magical moments, whether it was captured by my camera, captured beautifully by someone else, or simply experienced without a single shutter click.

Because in the end, photography is not only about making images. It is about learning to see.

And the more I look, the more I realize how extraordinary this world really is.

Happy World Photography Day to everyone who keeps looking, creating, sharing, and finding a little bit of magic around us. ❤️📷

Today it’s just one photo, but somehow I feel like this might be one of my best aerial shots so far.

The energy of hundreds of swimmers becomes incredibly dense and vivid at the turning buoy. The whole field stretches and bends around that single point, almost like a climbing rope pulled tight over the edge of a rock, with your partner on the other side.

Thanks Raise the Bar for opportunity to be a part of this fantastic event - Lake Meridian Triathlon.
