It is FINALLY ready, and I AM STOKED!!! YESS OOOO!!!
More Than a Photobook. A Piece of Black History. A Collector’s Item.
My 1st Book, Black August in the Park: An Archive of Radical Joy & Resistance in the City of Durham, is officially available for pre-sales!!!
I just might have shed a thug tear when I saw the photos and videos of it last night! I will neither deny nor confirm whether I did. 🙂
For pretty much a decade, I have carried my cameras into Black August in the Park and photographed the people, families, artists, activists, children, elders, love, laughter, style, resistance and JOY that make this gathering what it is.
As most of you know, I love capturing people, especially Black people! It feels amazing to put some of the photos from almost a decade of Black August in the Park in a book! It is my labor of love for Black people and those who love us! The truth is, I love us and love capturing us! I can't even help it if I tried! I am stoked to put some of my millions (yes, I said millions. I recently took a count :)) of casually captured photos in a book. And not just a book, either. It comes with a slipcase, as you can see in this image! I still can't believe it! I am super thankful!!
This is more than a coffee-table book. It’s a quintessential work of art, a visual archive, and a piece of Black history created to live beautifully in your home or office and, one day, be passed down. It's a book to gift your loved ones! It's a collector's item!
I created this book to be experienced—to pick it up, sit with the photographs, recognize familiar faces, discover new stories, start conversations, and return to it again and again.
Presented as a beautiful hardcover book with its own custom slipcase, it makes an incredible addition to your personal art collection, your coffee table, your office, or a meaningful gift for family and friends.
I poured years of my photography, storytelling, and love for this community and my Black "peoples" into these pages, and I would be honored for this book to find a place in your home wherever you live in the world.
Let's own a piece of Black history.
A piece of Durham history.
Celebrate Black joy.
Preserve the story.
And there is another reason your purchase matters: A portion of the sales will be contributed directly to the organizers of Black August in the Park.
The book is available for pre-order now!!
Check it out and get one (or two or three 😀) for yourself. Gift one to someone you love. And help preserve this story for generations to come!
I look forward to seeing who buys first! No pressure! 😀
Oh, more to come by God's grace! 🙂
