Last Friday, I spent the day at the Magic Kingdom completing donation requests for the America Cancer Society. I did rides, shows and character photo ops all dressed as the parrot Jose from the Enchanted Tiki Room. Each stop was part of the $600+ raised to help put an end to cancer. I expected laughter from others. What I didn't expect were tears and story sharing from those whose lives had also been touched by cancer.

Life is preciously short. The question is what will you choose to do with that time. Regardless of your passion: curing cancer, ending world hunger, fighting climate change, I ask you to be a change for good. Fight like hell to make the world a better place and have fun doing it. You never know who might see you dressed as a parrot and be moved to tears or laughter.

This October, I will be running the Chicago Marathon with the RunDisney Villains in support of the American Cancer Society. To make things fun and interesting for fundraising, I am putting forth a challenge -- for you and me.

This endeavor is in memory of our dear friend Ann, who passed away in the fall. Her favorite part of Disney was the Enchanted Tiki Room, an attraction in Magic Kingdom and Disneyland that features parrots.

Now through April 15, for every person who donates $25, I will sit through the show wearing this parrot cape. For anyone who donates $30+, I will wear it on a ride of your choice. Want to see me dressed as a parrot riding the tea cups or flying through the Twilight Zone on Tower of Terror? All you have to do is donate to the link in my profile. Be sure to include your ride of choice in the comments. All rides/shows will be completed between April 16-19.

Happy Opening Day!

Just reminiscing about the first time I covered Opening Day, 10 years ago in Milwaukee!

It was snowing, but that didn't stop the fans from showing up (in some cases shirtless while tailgating). The energy was electric! It was so cold inside that I had to wear my down jacket. But that didn't matter. It was opening day and not even the snow could change that.
