From North Carolina Asian Americans Together’s description:

Our theme, Common Roots, calls to mind the unique journeys and contributions of the many diverse communities across Asian and Pacific Islander diasporas, while highlighting the beauty we create together as we forge connections across backgrounds and generations – just as every individual root of a plant shares in nourishing each leaf and branch, so the entire being thrives.

May is Asian Pacific American Heritage Month (APAHM) — come celebrate with us at the 5th annual Common Roots Fest! We’ll have Asian artists, a vendor market, performances, food, and more. This event is FREE and welcomes all ages. It will be held outdoors at Durham Central Park from 3pm - 8pm.

Tea has the incredible power to bring us in touch with ourselves and those around us. Considering the busy world we live in, we believe it is all the more important to slow down and focus on what is happening in the now.”

we lean headlong into the wind,
the soft shadows sway back
and forth.

flexing a creative muscle
long dormant, releasing
that stride,

that deep feeling of
home and calm and being ready
for everything to follow.

see you all in the
glimmers.

“The Durham AAlyssahive Exhibition brings the podcast off the air and onto the walls.

Featuring artists interviewed on the Durham Artist Archive, this show invites audiences to step inside the stories they’ve heard and experience the work up close.

What began as conversations about creative practice and Durham’s evolution now expands into a shared visual encounter.

Whether you’re a longtime listener or new to the archive, this exhibition offers a chance to see the city through the hands, materials, and imagination of the artists shaping it.”

SE ASIAN SOLAR NEW YEAR 2026 ✨🙏🏽🌞

📍 Durham Central Park
🗓️ Sunday April 12th, 2026
⏰ Noon - 4:00pm

——

Join C. Bay Milin Photography this upcoming Sunday April 12th, at Durham’s Central Park Pavilion!

We are once again participating in the Southeast Asian Solar New Year event, hosted by ! I will be one of the featured artists representing Studio ①③, selling some limited edition photography prints, and various other mixed-media pieces.

Are you interested in learning more about photography, and don’t know where to begin? Have a camera, and want to gain more insight and guidance? This is a perfect opportunity to come out to meet, bend my ear, and find out about my private sessions.

Please come by to support your local Thai-Am photog, and your local Southeast Asian-American community in celebration.

From Lao Lao’s description:

The Solar New Year is a celebration by South & Southeast Asian countries to mark the beginning of the solar cycle year. In Laotian culture it is referred to as Pi Mai and is celebrated at the same time as the new year celebrations of many countries in South Asia such as Bangladesh, Cambodia, China (Dai People of Yunnan Province), India, Myanmar, Nepal, Thailand, and Sri Lanka.

In Laos, the festival lasts for three days around April 14th - 16th. The first day is the last day of the old year; Lao people traditionally make their homes and spaces clean. The second day of the festival is the “day of no year”, a day that falls in neither the old year or the new year. The last day of the festival marks the start of the new year.
