Amy & Eilish 🐾💛 I had been dreaming of shooting out in the Bisti Badlands for years! When Amy reached out asking for a shoot with her soul dog, Eilish, I was beyond excited! This session was so much more than just the pictures! It was a new friendship, a combined love of adventure and so much fun being creative in the desert!

When your senior session turns into a water rescue… Yesterday we were shooting Mikael’s senior session at Lemon Reservoir when we heard frantic whistling coming from the middle of the lake. There was one person on the water on what looked to be an overturned canoe. There is no cell reception up there and it’s about a 20 minute drive to reception. We were able to call for help via the SOS button on my Toyota and using the satellite connection on our phones to text EMS. Knowing it would take a minute for EMS to arrive and the whistling had slowed quite a bit, Mikael’s dad, Josh, (who is former coast guard) decided to swim out to the person. (The water was 62° and it was cold outside) He got to the person in the water and helped them swim back to shore. In the mean time, Pine River Valley Fire Department and La Plata County Sheriff Officers arrived quickly and were able to save this person’s life. I am still in awe of the heroism of Josh and the incredibly quick response time of the EMS teams. I watched multiple people who had never met work together to save this person’s life. Even after the chaos, Mikael decided to continue with the session and we got some incredible shots with his bike. Thank god for good humans. 🩷
