Jackie and Troy’s 2024 wedding was a pivot point for me.

It wasn’t anything overly dramatic, but I now see it as the start of me recognizing that the small moments are just as worth chasing as the big ones.

The black and white of Jackie in the hair and makeup chair? She looks like a ‘golden age Hollywood star’ getting ready for the Oscars.

The light just fell right, the contrast, the composition, it was perfect, but I didn’t know it at the time. Ten seconds later I moved on to photographing something else.

Still one of my favorites to this day.

Engagement sessions are often framed as a date that the photographer is just tagging along on, and as cute as that sentiment is, it’s not really what’s happening...

I used to say this, I used to think this way, but inherently, when a camera is present, and the whole point of why you are there with your subjects is to photograph them, there can be a dissonance between authenticity and performance.

Now, I’ve reframed (photography pun) how I approach and coach my clients through an engagement session.

We are going to design a session that captures the romantic feeling of being on a date by creating a narrative to guide us.

Using our favorite movies, songs, books, various inspirations, etc. we’ll build a simple little narrative story to follow for the session.

I personally love using romance movies as a visual guide in posing and prompting. Because when is real life do you push your partner up against a fence, lean into them, and give them a kiss? But damn does it make for a good photo ❤️

You ever roll into work on a Monday morning still feeling the weekend? Yeah… that’s me.

But it’s not college-party-hangover feeling—it’s more like “my heart is full and my SD cards are too” kind of feeling.

Here’s the real reason why I'm a wedding photographer…

1. LEGACY
Photos are proof we were here. They’re how we remember, how we honor, how we keep the people we love close—even long after they’re gone.

2. POSITIVITY
Most jobs aren’t built around champagne toasts and lots of kissing (unless you work on Love Island). I get to show up to a celebration every single weekend.

3. THE LOVE
I know it sounds cheesy—but when two humans find that kind of connection? The kind you witness and makes you forget how hard you're smiling like a psycho... just me? Every story wrecks me in the best way. I'm all in.

4. COMMUNITY
The wedding industry is pure magic. A team of artists and planners and parent whisperers who care deeply and work hard. I’m honored to stand among them.

5. Selfishly? I JUST LOVE IT!
This job feeds my soul. I get to create. I get to connect. I get to support my family doing something that lights me up.
