Can never go wrong with a morning trip up the shore!

I spent a few hours hanging around Gooseberry Falls State Park at sunrise yesterday. The wind was creating some strong waves and dramatic scenery. The falls and river are just starting to open up, but they still have a long ways to go.

Winters Last Breath

With the temperatures warming, this morning was looking like the last negative temperature day for the season. It was a beautiful, calm morning with a fresh layer of ice across Lake Superior.

It is Sea Smoke season in Duluth! What a beautiful sunrise Saturday morning.

The air temp was -13° when I arrived down in Canal Park with the wind chills dropping close to -30°.

A beautiful morning to spend at Split rock Lighthouse.

I made the trip up for sunrise yesterday and was not disappointed! There was a low hanging fog in the area which created a very moody setting around the lighthouse. I was also treated to two loons fishing in the waters right off shore.

As the fog was burning up on a calm morning, a lone island on our BWCA lake appeared.

This was my favorite picture from my BWCA trip. It is so simple and beautiful.

A hidden gem tucked away off the Gunflint Trail.

This is now the second time that I have visited these falls, and both times have been amazing. The BWCA is not known for its waterfalls, but the two tiered falls at this location are absolutely beautiful!

Our first night in the BWCA we were treated to a great Aurora show! In all of my years of camping in the wilderness, this is the first time that I have been able to view them this strong. Being able to sit by a campfire while watching the show was an experience I won't forget.

The show took place the night of 6/13 into the early morning hours.
