Which photograph do you prefer: the close-up portrait or the wider view showing this hawk in its world?

There are moments in nature that feel less like a photograph and more like a gift.

I spotted this beautiful Broad-winged Hawk tucked among the oak leaves, perfectly still, watching the world below. For a few quiet moments, everything else disappeared.

Broad-winged Hawks are incredible travelers. Each fall, they migrate thousands of miles toward Central and South America, sometimes gathering by the thousands in swirling groups called “kettles.” They use rising columns of warm air to soar while conserving precious energy for the journey.

They are patient hunters, often sitting silently beneath the forest canopy watching for small mammals, frogs, snakes, insects and other prey.

Minnesota’s forests are part of their breeding grounds, making encounters like this one especially beautiful.

Death is not our Final Destination!!

Four nights ago I had a seizure so terrible that it really rocked my hope and my faith. I was in pain afterward and really bit my tongue badly. I was having a terrible pity part and feeling really sorry for myself.... I get really scared when I have seizures and I keep wondering how close to death I am. It's really hard for me to be calm afterwards and I panic for a long time.

My husband showed me a beautiful sermon. I listened to it and I was comforted by the reminder death is not our final destination!! Heaven is!! I imagined my mom and grandparents waiting for me with open arms. Hugging me as I entered heaven.

Yesterday I didn't have any noticeable seizures!!!! Praise God to that... I took pictures while laying on my zero gravity chair in my backyard... Just me, my dogs, nature and my camera... I pray a lot more then I used to. I listen to a lot of Christian music and scriptures... and my prayer warriors have showed up and really have been here for me... I am thankful for everyone that has reminded me of God's promises and God's plans for me...
I say this often and I mean it. I Love you all... xoxoxox Amy

I wanted to share an amazing memory from before my health changed. We were at my brother's house on the lake when this Great Blue Heron suddenly dove and speared a fish with its beak. It all happened in seconds, and I was lucky enough to capture the moment.

These are the moments I miss the most!!

My doctor has me resting my brain as much as possible because of my seizures. Less screen time, more sleep, more quiet… and a lot of patience.
Writing has always been where I’ve found peace, Tonight, for just a little while, I felt like myself again. And that little moment gave me hope and I wrote this poem.

Broken

She drifted softly through the dawn,
on quiet wings of light.
She carried whispers of the sun
through fading shades of night.
She rested softly when she tired,
never fearing pause or stay.
She seemed to know what we forget,
what sorrow slowly teaches all:
That every soul
will wander beneath unfamiliar stars.
That some will wake to find that their life
has been forever changed.

And still…

The flowers bloom
where tears once fell.
The morning sings
its gentle song.
The breeze still dances
through branches high.
The sun still warms
the waiting sky.
Love still lingers.
Hope still grows.
Even in places
only Heaven knows.
So when your wings
grow weak with flight,
don’t fear the stillness
of the quiet night.
For rest is not
the end of flight—
it is where broken wings
learn to mend.
The earth will hold you
when you cannot stand.
Grace will carry you
when you cannot go on.
And when your heart
believes it’s through…
Like the butterfly,
you will rise again—
not untouched,
not unbroken,
but remade
by the quiet courage
of being born again.
