American Golden Plover

I was lucky to see this long distance migrant that stopped in my area a couple days ago. It’s hard to believe that these birds will travel up to 20,000 miles each year as they migrate from their breeding grounds in the Arctic Tundra to South America.

I took the time yesterday to go up north to Horicon Marsh in Wisconsin. Really cool place! This American Bittern walked up to me while I was photographing other birds in the marsh. It was very cool to watch this bittern hunt along a dock for a good 30 minutes or so, devouring at least 5 frogs within that time.
