In the post-Covid summer of 2022, CSX ethanol loads B647, bound for Lawrenceville, arrive at the railplant in Atlanta, GA, with a colorful mix of power from several different Class I railroads. I had a lot of fun posting updates and working with fellow railfans in the area to nab this train as it later departed for the CSX Abbeville subdivision. Those were good times, and my, how time flies.

Queen City Warbonnet // A surprise visitor came through Cincinnati, OH today on CSX train B631! In my opinion, the Warbonnet paint scheme is one of the most iconic and elegant schemes to have ever graced the side of a locomotive. Although the engine was unfortunately trailing, I made every attempt to frame it with the Cincinnati skyline as the train crossed the Ohio River into Covington, KY. // Aug 30th, 2026

Late Summer Afternoons with the Delaware & Hudson // Several weeks ago, NS 1080, celebrating the Delaware & Hudson Railway, led northbound NS 28C out of Cincinnati, OH -- seen here coming into West Chester township amidst lush foliage and tall grass blowing in that gentle summer breeze. // Aug. 2026

Queen City Eclipse // Taking a quick break from railroad-content to share my take on the recent lunar eclipse. PLEASE NOTE: This is a stitched image! After hearing of the lunar eclipse, I had wondered what it might have looked like with the Cincinnati skyline. However, the moon’s actual path would not have yielded this view. At the peak of the eclipse, the moon was much higher in the sky. However, with a bit of Photoshop, I was able to combine two of my images together, creating the scene I had originally envisioned 😁 // Aug. 27-28, 2026

Paducah & Louisville Heritage in the Queen City // My last photo had shown Paducah & Louisville’s (PAL) newest US 250th anniversary engine entering Cincinnati under the cover of night, fresh from the Huntington, WV shops. At the time, I had wondered when the engine would head south toward Louisville. About a week later, I got my answer. PAL 1776 showed up trailing second on southbound M573, seen here making its way through Covington, KY, with plenty of late afternoon light and the Cincinnati skyline in the background. Quite a different scene from my first encounter with this unit, but a fitting ending for PAL 1776's trip through this region. // August 2026

Paducah & Louisville Railway's new America 250 commemorative locomotive recently rolled through Cincinnati, OH during the evening hours. Fresh out of the Huntington, WV paint shop, the engine sure looked sharp even under the low light. While the engine has not been formally debuted yet, I'm sure it won't be long until we hear an official announcement from the P&L...! // August 2026, Cincinnati, OH.

One of the coolest photos I nabbed in Atlanta, GA, was this over-under at the quintessential CSX coast line tunnel beneath Norfolk Southern's Inman Yard. CSX 1972, the Family Lines heritage unit, was stopped in the perfection position awaiting permission for a shove move. I had no idea the NS train was coming until I heard the locomotives squealing in the distance and had about 3 seconds to get my camera ready before they rolled overhead- Bam! // Summer 2024.

Golden hour and storms at old Tilford Yard // This is an image I have shared before, though I am much happier with this edit. It is a photo that never fails to bring back good memories beneath the Georgia sun and the tempestuous rhythm of southern weather. With storm clouds towering in the background, a trio of Canadian National engines leads CSX train M542 on a summer evening at the site of the former CSX Tilford Yard in Atlanta, GA. One of the CN 100th Anniversary units can be seen second in the consist. // Summer 2024

Pumpkins and Rainbows // Continuing the theme of weather in the Atlanta, GA area, here is a photo of a northbound unit train featuring BNSF power stopped in west midtown (10th Street / King Plow) after a nice summer thunderstorm. This photo was taken shortly after my last photo of the Georgia Road heritage unit at Howell Tower. When I was driving on W Marietta St and saw the rainbow overhead and the stopped train underneath, I knew I had to make a dash up to the parking deck to see if I could grab a photo! // July 2024
