The Mormon Hay Stacker, also known as the Hay Derrick, originated from the ingenuity of Mormon pioneers and settlers who faced the daunting task of building hay stacks in the limited resources of the American frontier. The Hay Derrick allowed for efficient loading and unloading of hay in the hostile and barren landscape, and hundreds of them dotted the mountain valleys and plains, following the patterns of Mormon settlements. Despite their dilapidated state today, they serve as a reminder of everyday farm life and the historic haunts of the Rocky Mountains.

This authentic Hay Derrick was used on the Box L Ranch in Jackson Hole, Wyoming for years, moving thousands of tons of loose hay before being broken down by time, age, and weather. However, its steel parts were salvaged and reassembled by its original owner, Bob Lucas, who preserved it as a symbol of old times. Today, the Hay Derrick operates at AJ Woolstenhulme's ranch where he continues the tradition of haying with his draft horse teams and feeding his cows and horses throughout the winter. As a testament to his Mormon heritage and the preservation of American history, he shares the old ways with others who seek to understand their roots.

I haven’t posted much lately because, well to be Frank since someone deleted my account and all my work I wasn’t ready to start over. But today I spent some time with some highland cows and I couldn’t not post a photo!
