They’re like great songs – the notes representing all the components– inspiration, preparation, angle, light, subject, shadow, equipment, colors (or not), composition, background, foreground, focus, anticipation, depth, angle, lens characteristics, training, timing, and so many others - that go into making that special picture. Some you’ll put in an album, some you’ll share with everyone you know, some you’ll share only with a special friend or loved one. Photographs can excite you, disturb you, and touch you. Some will make you laugh, some will tug at your heartstrings, others will make your heart swell with pride. Of the millions of photographs you’ll view in your life, some you’ll look at over and over, most will be forgotten, and a few, even though you may have seen them only once, you’ll never be able to forget. Art comes in many forms. It could be a life-size sculpture or a Christmas tree ornament, a poetic ballad or an advertising jingle. You can find it reading a good book or a simple quote, admiring a beautiful mural or reading a comic strip. Millions of people might love it, or maybe only one or two. I enjoy trying to capture an event whether that is in a series of photos or in just one. I share these with others in hopes that they might evoke some kind of emotional response – simple or complex, like or love, smile or sigh. The photographs I take are my unpretentious contribution to the always-expanding sphere of fine arts.
