Here is how they go. Three families share the hour here at the studio in Dover. Everyone hops in and out of the shots, the kids run around together, and the parents actually get to talk. Some families come back and pick right up with friends they made here last year. Others meet someone new.

Nobody is rushed. The photographs I end up loving most are almost always the ones nobody planned.

Three weekends this fall:

September 26th and 27th
October 3rd and 4th
October 10th and 11th

You go home with a private gallery of your favorites, and if holiday cards are on your list, we can take care of those too.

We are once again supporting A Place To Turn Food Pantry in Natick this year. Rather than ask for a donation, we ask each family to bring something from their needs list, found on their website.

Sign-ups open Wednesday, September 9th at 7:00 in the morning. There are a limited number of spots across the three weekends. If you are not on our email list yet, send me a message and I will add you.

Class of 2027, the calendar is closing.

One senior, one September afternoon, and about an hour or two of walking and talking. That is the whole session. Most seniors show up nervous and leave asking when the gallery is ready.

Getting siblings to hug for a photo is a negotiation. Getting them to mean it is the job.

Patience, a little luck, and we had both this day. Sibling portraits only get more valuable as the years go by. The kids grow, the dynamic shifts, and one day this photo is the one everyone fights over.

Senior guys: this can actually be painless. I promise.

A good session is short, relaxed, and a little bit fun. We walk the property, talk about your season or your plans, and I shoot while you are busy being yourself. You leave with photos your mom will love and you will not mind either. Letterman jacket, guitar, and dog all welcome.

The first year goes by exactly as fast as they say.

It feels like last week I was photographing this little one giggling her way across the grass, hands reaching for everything, completely unbothered by the camera. No props, no forced poses, just a baby being exactly who she is in soft natural light. Everything about this stage is temporary, which is the whole reason to photograph it.

My job is knowing where to stand.

Natural light does the heavy lifting in a senior portrait when you put the subject in the right spot. Open shade, backlight, dappled woodland light. The senior just shows up and gets to be themselves, which is the easiest assignment there is.

What should I wear for senior pictures? Easy: bring options.

A flowing dress on a shaded path, something casual by the fence, one dressed up look. That usually covers the whole range, and every session includes outfit changes and a mix of settings so the gallery feels like a collection, not thirty versions of one photo.
