Last week I met up with Lil Woodham, 93, to show her her retouched portraits from her session. As we chatted Lil talked about living all over the world since her husband was in the military. In the 1950's she lived in West Germany. At one point she was able to travel over to East Germany (remember that it's communist controlled) by train. One rule was that when going east all the blinds in the train needed to be pulled down so travelers couldn't follow along to see the terrain, towns, countryside, etc. of East Germany. She said one time she peeked under the blinds at a train stop to see a very sad, poverty stricken small town. She also said there was a noted difference between West Berlin and East Berlin. I thought this was so interesting and I felt fortunate to chat with a woman who had first hand experience with such a unique part of history.
In this image she's holding portraits of her daughters and late husband. Take note that she has *physical* portraits (not virtual) she's holding. Printing portraits of your loved ones is important. This is a service I offer in my studio.
