I have noticed that foliage photos never show the crowds, but the truth is, there are often hundreds of people scrambling for the same shot. On Table Rock, I was surrounded by strangers who shared my quest for the perfect view. Together, we enjoyed the experience even more.

Although peak foliage had passed, the sunset created a breathtaking display of light. It made up for the lack of vibrant colors and left me in awe.

A view of Lake Willoughby earlier in October, after peak foliage had passed. Sometimes nature excites, although most times it is much more mundane and does not need the work of Lightroom to enhance.

After hours of travel nearly missed this aerial shot, except for the helpful insistence of a travel partner that I pull over right outside of the campground, helping to capture this moment. If anything, it shows just how remote the Northeast Kingdom of Vermont really is, as there is very little cell coverage in this area, which makes operating a drone much more challenging. It also helps to have a persistent friend.

Fall is one of those times of year when you can visit places that are normally known by people, but now a few thousand more people are visiting because some leaves are dying. Bass Harbor Head Light last Saturday was no exception. While I may have missed sunset, blue hour provided some ample opportunities for wave and lighthouse shots, showing that sometimes the best views are after hundred of people have left where you spent half a day traveling to see.

A bit of a longer exposure of the Sun from last week, showing the corona and solar prominences. The last seconds before totality, showing the diamond ring effect, as well as some washed out Baily’s Beads. I plan on editing some more down the line to pull out that effect, but the lens flare on this image was something else and really accentuates everything.

Words cannot describe the feeling that totality brings to someone experiencing it. While there are many photos, this is what is most realistic to what one can see on the ground. The solar prominences provide for an eerie red to pink color on the ground. More interesting, the average height of a prominence is about 62,137 miles (100,000 kilometers), ten times the Earth’s diameter. We are truly small in the overall scheme of the universe, but that does not make our existence any less important to someone.

I just realized that I never shared any of my New Hampshire foliage photos from last year, so here is a photo taken from the Willey Brook Bridge, in Crawford Notch.
If you are going to access this place, you have to trespass the railroad below. There is a path that comes up from the road below in the center of the photo, but I would also highly advise walking the one hundred yards down the track from this bridge to access this view, as the risk of slipping and falling from this cliff is too great, as happened to a good friend of mine in 2021.
Anyways, enjoy leaf peeping responsibly.
