As we near the end of October and Breast Cancer awareness month, I wanted to give you some insight into my process of photography, and how beating breast cancer and living with treatments to prevent an act 2, has changed my perspective.

1.Chasing perfection is a choice. Some of my colleagues build amazing sets, others have a list of poses and backgrounds on repeat. That is all awesome and a choice. It leaves room for all different kinds of photographers and their choices.

In my experience I don't have the time or energy to be perfect or give the appearance of perfection. While I do delete distractions from the images. I know what the distractions are by working with you. You tell me what your choices are. That takes the pressure off of me and gives you a chance to be heard. In the end these are your moments, your family, your business, your brand.

2.Get your mammograms on the repeat so you can have more choices in the off chance you need treatment and spend the most time with your family.

Fall weather can’t always make up its mind.

One minute, you’re hiking in the warm sunshine. The next, you’re wondering why you dressed like you were moving to the Arctic.

That’s why layering is your friend when exploring parks in the fall. Start with a moisture-wicking base layer, add something warm, and bring an outer layer to help protect against wind and rain. Temperatures can change throughout the day, especially at higher elevations. If you’re visiting a beach in Florida, well, isn’t that special.

In conclusion, there are going to be times when you just have to carry that sweater or light jacket. When it happens, do it in style. We recommend the following techniques.

🍁 The waist wrap: Tie it around your waist like it’s 1994 and you’re ready to take on anything.

🍁 The over-the-shoulder drape: Be the casual hiker/fashion influencer/person who refuses to admit they’re cold.

🍁 The stuffed-backpack situation: Let it hang halfway out of your backpack like it’s trying to escape.

🍁 The arm drape: A classic. Carry it over one arm for the next 4.7 miles because you definitely won’t need it.

🍁 The bear hug: Clutch it to your chest while insisting, “I’m fine.”
