Most Cardinals can be seen from far far away as their bright red feathers light up the brush and trees. Does this guy look a little different to you?

This Cardinal is molting!

Molting is the act of renewing feathers. Every bird molts once every year. When you look at this Cardinal, notice the tail feathers and how they almost look cut. See all his once vibrant red feathers starting to fade?

Mr. Cardinal is getting ready for something new, another season, another year to show off his beauty in his own natural way.

Eastern Chipmunk 🐿️

I love that wildlife is just that, wild life. It can come in all shapes and sizes, brave or timid, strong or weak. One characteristic every wild animal shares is survival. They know nothing else other than to survive. They don’t think about what could happen tomorrow, it’s about how much one can get done today in hopes of staying alive.

I believe animals are the one being on this planet that truly live in each and every moment. They can spend every day grateful to have gotten through it and never worrying about what’s to come.

What I would give to be a wild animal for a day, even if it was just to be a tiny chipmunk.

Northern Red Cardinal ❤️

The beautiful red colors we find in Cardinals is from their diet. Consuming mostly berries year-round helps to give the red tint we all know and love on these little birdies. Come molting season they will start to lose their reddish-glow in places and sometimes even go bald to welcome a new set of feathers.

From the looks of this guy, he’s eaten every berry he can find and it’s done him very well.

Forest puppy 🦌

In the cold of winter, end of January, when the snow first sets in and freezes the ground, I’d go for any and all the sticks too if I was a deer. I read that branches are high in protein. Through the winter deer will find all the nutrients they can to gain back the energy they’ve spent during the fall rut.

Doing whatever it takes to survive another season is something we should all take in and admire.
