Juriniopsis adusta. This is a parasitic fly, the female will lay its eggs on or near a caterpillar. Once the larvae hatch it will eat a hole into the caterpillar, slowly consuming its insides, leaving the caterpillar’s vital organs for last. It will then exit its host and find a nice place in the ground to pupate, eventually emerging as a winged adult.

Wasp Wednesday!
The first 2 images are of some kind of Thread-waisted wasp. These guys can look a little frightening but they are solitary wasps with no queen or nest to protect so they are pretty chill.
The second 2 images are of a Paper wasp. These wasps are social wasps, they can be aggressive if you are by the nest or harassing them, but in general don’t care about you when they are out foraging.
