Revisiting an old series of photos taken while traveling the southwest United States. The beauty of Emerald Cove, within the canyon wall that the Colorado River had formed.
I recently finished a book from one of my favorite National Geographic photographers, Pete McBride, titled Witness to Water. Who photographed and explored the Colorado River waterway, highlighting its beauty but also its many challenges. With the Colorado River being the major artery of water that gives life to the southwest. With its several dams and many straws that draw from its waterways, the stress upon this river is steadily increasing. I learned through McBride’s book that the Colorado doesn’t even make it to its end in Mexico, which was once a beautiful river delta with a rich and thriving ecosystem.
A complicated river of issues that meander through Native land rights, environmental impacts, water rights, large city impacts, toxic uranium mining, ranching Dams, and much more.
