Hiking the Dolomites.

A honeymoon in the dolomites was quite the epic way to do it. The challenge, the visits, and time spent. Between the rain and sunshine, what a beautiful place in the world to hike.

It’s this time of the year that we start seeing fledgling owls. Especially Barred Owls, that nest just a little bit later than Great Horned Owls. This parent watch very closely over it’s Young one and certainly surprise me when I suddenly looked up and was right underneath it. If you really want to look closely, you can see the reflection of the street and sidewalk in its eyes.

Never take for granted the nature that’s even in your own backyard. Always appreciate a good wildlife viewing tip from friends and family.

The uncertainty of the world outside. This young, great horned owlet, kept an eye on me due the uncertainty of what I was. Like many of us, we can be so uncertain of the outside world, especially when we’re young. Some are more cautious than others.

Northern lights overhead photographed on a trip last year in Grand Marais Minnesota. The moment was absolutely beautiful and a beautifully shared moment.

We must enjoy the brevity of life. Before you know it, the moment passes quickly like the the sight and feeling of these northern lights. I often have to remind myself how precious our time is.

Revisiting an old series of photos taken while traveling the southwest United States. The beauty of Emerald Cove, within the canyon wall that the Colorado River had formed.

I recently finished a book from one of my favorite National Geographic photographers, Pete McBride, titled Witness to Water. Who photographed and explored the Colorado River waterway, highlighting its beauty but also its many challenges. With the Colorado River being the major artery of water that gives life to the southwest. With its several dams and many straws that draw from its waterways, the stress upon this river is steadily increasing. I learned through McBride’s book that the Colorado doesn’t even make it to its end in Mexico, which was once a beautiful river delta with a rich and thriving ecosystem.

A complicated river of issues that meander through Native land rights, environmental impacts, water rights, large city impacts, toxic uranium mining, ranching Dams, and much more.

Mementos of this beautiful area called the Boundary Waters Canoe Area. Today it was signed into law to open mining that will have lasting negative impacts.

Photographed was from my last time up there under the stars looking at our campground, to sunset paddling across its waters.

Photo taken this evening just south of Desoto Iowa just before this storm elevated to a Tornado warned storm.

Earth Day. Cherish, protect, appreciate the beauty of this place we call home, and who we share it with. Not only be good stewards but be a good neighbor.

A few photographs that includes of a springtime newly born fawn, baby Robins, and the beauty of the night’s sky over the still water.

Certainly lucked out on several images of this Great Horned Owl nest this late winter /early spring. With this species of our being the earliest of Nestor‘s these little ones are already venturing out and exploring around the area. Fun to look back when they were just in their nest.

Great Horned Owlets are out of the nest around this time of the year and are one of the earliest nesting species of birds here in North America. This owlet kept a watchful on eye on me while I snapped a few….hundred photos of it.
