The blue hour in the Boundary Waters. There is nothing quite like the true wilderness to paddle in to it on a canoe. Unspoiled beauty has no price tag. I’m hoping to return to the BWCA again soon.

Sunrise in the beautiful and tranquil place called the Boundary Waters Canoe Area. The BWCA has always been a special place to me and it was long overdue to come back. A few days of paddling, portaging, fishing, photography, and spending time with my wife.

A still morning with the Loons in this beautiful place, with a cup of coffee, is a little bit of heaven on earth. Cherish places like this.

You never know who you share your backyard with. Barred Owls easily call suburban neighborhoods home as well. This young Barred Owl was photographed earlier this year when it first left the nest. In the month of August is a good time to see these young owls out on their own, but will soon search for their new homes to search for their own territory.

With a new moon, I love getting out and watching the stars in the rural countryside. Just before the Milky Way disappeared into the city lights of Indianola Iowa, this image was taken on a level B road in northern Warren County. Was fortunate enough to have met up with other photographers for this evening’s outing.

wanted to just pay tribute to those pilots for showing up this year despite all the weather delays and cancellations. Looking forward to have them grace our skies again next year.

The summer season is some of the best stargazing we could ask for. Appreciate fellow photographer, Aaron Miller, for hosting us to do some astrophotography in Warren County.

it’s this time of the year where you hear crickets and even Katydids around you at night. Probably one of best sounds are the ones heard during those Midwest summer nights.

A quiet moment in nature. During these long summer days, the evenings is when the deer start to become active again after resting during the mid-day heat. With the sound of cicadas, the flowing stream, a moment of a doe caring for her fawn before crossing the stream.

Love moments like this.

The view from Glacier Point at Yosemite National Park. This van offers one of the best views of the iconic Half Dome and Yosemite Valley below.

I remember fondly from this trip, the iconic scenery that every national parks/nature lover should see. The timing of rain offered some dynamic views from this vantage. The next day after this photo was taken, we ventured to do the iconic cable hike of half dome.

Dunning Springs, located near Decorah Iowa. One of Iowa’s notable stops is not only Decorah but this park as well.

As the sunlight trickled through the tree canopy, it highlighted certain areas giving it a contrast of lighting. Northeast Iowa will always have a place in my heart due to its unique beauty and trout streams.

This time of the year the Milky Way has begun to appear over the horizon shortly before midnight. Was thankful to take advantage of the clear skies and no moonlight to be able to capture a starry night again.

Just the sound of the stillness was all to be heard but the stars made up for a lack of sound.
