Familie - A Modern Family Photographer

Kicking off this year has me ruminating on all sorts of intentions. Both personally for myself and Familie within the photography realm as a whole. I keep returning to this exhaustion from 'keeping up with the Joneses' in every aspect of life.

To remedy that, this year, I am challenging myself to 'lose control' of my photography and hand it over to the families I serve. There's no need for perfectly posed children, immaculately clean wardrobes, etc. I truly believe the value of photography like mine lies within the lives and stories lived out in front of the lens.

This year is about the unassuming moments and photos that many would overlook. Which, for you, are pivotal points in documenting your family's story. My goal for Familie this year is to be present for our local community through supportive sessions within which families move, explore, and simply exist within.

Here's to 2023 and all the beauty it will bring our Familie(s)! 🎉🥂

I seem to tempt fate anytime I post a weather-specific photo. Perhaps a snowy dog will be just the thing for these temps to warm back up. Maybe? Just maybe?!

Either way, it's a wonderful gem that found its way out of my archive again. 🥰👏🏻

What a rainy and windy weekend am I right?! Is anyone else still drying out? 🙋‍♀️

Regardless of the weather, I was excited to get out yesterday and photograph the Bacons. Doug and Karen's family has grown to be quite the crew, especially with so many new grands over the past few years. All the love and joy that growth brought has been truly remarkable to witness.

Drumroll please annnddd... I'm BACK! 🥳🥳🥳

I could not be more excited to be returning to work within Familie both as a photographer and part of the Des Moines community. While there are plenty of changes to come with my return I figured I wouldn't bore you too much with the details now.

This is a post that'll break my heart but gives me so much hope at the same time.

That prefaced, I wanted to share that I've made the decision to step away from all business until at least April 2022 and put things on pause. It's a decision I've been contemplating for months now and have absolutely dreaded announcing for just as long.

While I don't feel I can share much detail I will say this; stepping away from Familie for just a period of time will grant me the energy and focus I need to care for myself and my little family for now.

For all my currently contracted clients, you do not need to worry about a thing. Within the space that I am giving myself, I will be fully capable and thrilled to still be photographing your stories and families.

For any past clients, you will not lose access to any of your galleries or the ability to order prints. I have processes in place to ensure any prints you order are sent promptly and, as always, are the incredible quality you have come to know.

If you need me please do not hesitate to reach out via Messenger here or by email. I will be routinely checking those forms of contact.

Lastly, if you needed a sign to give yourself a break to be there for your own little family, whatever it looks like, this is it. Always take that time. Frankly, the same goes for just needing space for yourself.
