This black-necked stilt kept getting closer to the American avocet. Eventually the avocet had enough and encouraged the stilt to find its own place to eat.

The most cooperative Scarlet Tanager I've ever run into. Usually I only see them high up, but this guy was chasing a female down low in the canopy and gave me several close up shots.

I had a work trip to Idaho this week, but found some time Sunday evening to sneak in a visit to the Bear Lake National Wildlife Refuge. The refuge is a huge marsh area north of Bear Lake which straddles the Idaho/Utah border.

The marsh is totally loaded with migratory waterfowl right now.

This is an American Bittern, a first for me to photograph. They're almost impossible to see when they don't want to be seen. I think I saw a dozen Sunday evening.

I'm slowly working through my photos from our trip to Florida last month. I had a morning available to go to the Circle B Bar Preserve. I've been there before and it's a great place to visit. This morning, however, not so much.

It was fogged in tight and even an hour after sunrise there wasn't any light. It was about as bad as conditions can get for photography. Fortunately, there were a few willing subjects that allowed me to get a little creative. This great egret was one of them.

It's spring and the early migrants are moving through. For me the past few years, Ruby Crowned Kinglets and Field Sparrows have been the first to show up and pose for me. Both present their own challenges but every once in awhile they give you a good look.

I don't usually post photos of birds against a blue sky background, but this young red-tailed hawk seemed curious about what I was last week. It gave me a couple of very low altitude flybys.

I don't usually do video (as you can clearly see), but the combination of the quiet interrupted by the goose and the osprey eating the fish seemed worthy.
