💡LIGHTING 💡
Your lighting matters... and this is why! 👀 Look at theeese! ... I was doing some lighting test shots for a session (with some help of my babiest brother lol) and started noticing how much things actually change. The shadows, the tones, the colors… even the colored backdrop looks different just from the lighting. One backdrop, different vibes.
None of these creative choices are “wrong” either. it just depends on what you’re going for. My actual session didn’t look like any of these. I lit it differently on purpose. It's all about the intention.
✨ “Photography is painting with light” – and it really is. You’re not just taking a picture, you’re shaping it with intention and thought!
Ive been playing around more with controlled lighting lately, mostly because I needed to. Honestly, I've been a little scared of flash. I had an on camera flash that I didn't get much use out of. I figured there was a time and place for flash and didn't think I needed it if the sun was out 😂 (and off camera lighting can be kinda expensiveeee 😬 and I wasn't there yet lol)
I put learning more flash to the side and focused on sharpening some other skills. BUT, I had an opportunity come up that I just couldn't say "no" to and I knew that it would require me to step up my game, get some new gear and start playing more with flash. I wanted to make sure that if I was going to take on the project that it was going to get done RIGHT!
For most of my photography life I've used mostly natural light or a single standing video light, as I was mostly doing video anyways. But, I get it now 🤩 lol and once you get the basics down it's really fun to have more control over your lighting.
