Let me be a little mushy, and really real, for a moment.
In my 15 years as a military spouse, I’ve heard it all. One phrase that’s always stuck with me is, “Well, her husband is military… she signed up for this.”
But the truth is, I met my husband in high school over two decades ago. I fell in love with him then. I chose him then. When we were just two bratty teenagers trying to figure life out.
I didn’t “sign up” for anything. My heart committed to a person long before any military paperwork was ever signed.
I’ve been incredibly lucky that this has only been our second base and that Wichita has been home for the last 11 years. Some people may call Wichita boring, but to me, it became so much more than a place on a map.
It’s where I built my business from the ground up through countless trials and errors. It’s where Gia and I created something truly magical with our studio. It’s where my babies were born. It’s where I met so many of you. People who started as clients, acquaintances, or strangers and became family.
The love Wichita has shown me has been immeasurable.
What many people don’t know is that my husband and I fought these orders as hard as we could. We tried to stay because we knew the value of the life we built here and the people who made it so special.
So I just want to say thank you. Thank you to every person who supported me, encouraged me, trusted me with your most treasured moments, and welcomed me with open arms. I promise I will never forget it, and I will forever be grateful.
And maybe the next time the thought crosses someone’s mind that “they signed up for it,” they’ll remember this: behind every uniform and every set of orders are real people, real families, and two people who simply fell in love.
