The Invitation

This is what sparks my passion, joy, reverence and humility. I have to confess that I was mildly (maybe wildly) panicked that the conditions would change within moments, so I jumped out of the vehicle with only my camera in hand. Who needs water, a tripod, or any other comfort or survival supplies, right? Especially when one ends up taking an unexpected ten mile hike.

They rise like ancient sentinels, cloaked in mist. Redwoods beckon—not with voices, but with silence, shadows, light, and the gravity of age.

You feel it first in your breath. The air cools, thickens with memory. Step beneath their canopy and time unspools. The world beyond the forest edge dissolves, replaced by the hush of fern, bark, and the soft hush of your own heartbeat.

These giants do not shout. They do not demand. They endure. And in their endurance, they call. A summons not of sound, but of stillness. A deep, wordless whisper from roots older than language: Come closer. Slow down. Remember.

It is not just awe they inspire, but humility. In their presence, you become small—not diminished but restored to scale. They remind you of what endures, of what matters. Of how life can stretch—patient and persistent—toward the sun.

The redwoods do not chase. They wait. And in that waiting is the invitation: Come home.

So, I've probably taken this shot 848 times since I've lived on the Oregon coast, but I don't care. It never ceases to give me the utmost joy to stand in this spot watching the inversion below me at sunrise. The Universe is always benevolent, allowing me to be solitary up here,

It's such an honor to work with such talented people and beautiful souls. Most often, as photographers, we delve into the subjects that most captivate us. I'm blessed to have spent years wandering to my heart's content through Yakona's special places, getting acquainted with the wildlife and trees.

If you are local, come join us for this special event. I can tell you in advance that the orchestral piece composed by Sara Graef is pure magic.

"The Yakona Nature Preserve, located just south of Newport, is a privately owned and beautifully restored area recently captured by local photographers Bill Posner and Rena Olson and commemorated in a new orchestral work by Dr. Sara Graef.

View the nature, wildlife and landscape of the area as seen by Posner and Olson at the new photography exhibit at Newport's Olive Street Gallery, inside the Newport Performing Arts Center, opening this Saturday, Jan. 7 and running through Sunday, Feb. 26.

The Newport Symphony Orchestra will perform the world premiere commissioned work by Graef at the center on Saturday and Sunday, Jan. 21 and 22. Both Posner and Olson will be on site during Saturday’s concert."

What a joy to begin a new day and a new year with a liberal dose of Vitamin Sea!

I haven't been around much the past year or so (on social media) and even though I can't say that will change much in this new year, I'm grateful for the support I've always received by so many of you. I've made so many wonderful connections through photography. The shared joy of reveling in nature makes my heart happy in so many ways.

Live in the moment. Start each day with gratitude. Laugh. Create meaningful connections. Focus on the positive. Believe it will all fall into place. Be generous of spirit. Be kind to yourself. Follow your passion. Choose happy.

Happy New Year!!! 💚💛💙

Anyone who has spent five minutes with me knows how much I absolutely love and adore owls. I have been getting to know this pygmy owl over the past couple of years and she demands the utmost respect as the ultimate predator. I hope we have many more years sharing space together!

Redwoods can drink around 160 gallons of water per day. In the dry summer months, the trees get water from the iconic fog that blankets the forest. Redwoods get up to 40% of their water from the fog each year!

I've always paid attention to divine timing and synchronicity. Last night's sunset was a gift on so many levels and I am so grateful to my "unseen team" for showing me, unequivocally, what magic exists in this world.

“Be present. Make love. Make tea. Avoid small talk. Embrace conversation. Buy a plant, water it. Make your bed. Make someone else’s bed. Have a smart mouth, and a quick wit. Run. Make art. Create. Swim in the ocean. Swim in the rain. Take chances. Ask questions. Make mistakes. Learn. Know your worth. Love fiercely. Forgive quickly. Let go of what doesn’t make you happy. Grow.” ~ Paulo Coelho
