Flashback one year and some change ago. We were on an epic job with Jordan Lutes, Dani Lutes, Michele Fleury and our tech Brandon Friend-Solis in the hot Caribbean sun. It is such a privilege to be awarded projects like these. Beautiful private island AKA Coco Cay or Royal Caribbean's Perfect Day Island. Beautiful almost never means easy in production terms. We needed to fly a heavy lift drone with our Phase One IQ4 as the payload. Our amazing pilot John Graham had some steep challenges to pull this off. We have done this several times before but this time there was no room for error. In the middle of the ocean with absolutely no resources, preparation was paramount to say the least. Together with John we were able to put together an airtight system for flying this beast of a camera. Once in the air, Jordan and Dani were able to see the images in real time using live view and could trigger the camera from the ground with custom made servos. Heat was also an issue. If needed we were prepared to shield the camera with mylar and heatsinks. Being able to fly a 151MP camera in the air with full control opens up so many opportunities that were not available before. We had a blast working with our good pal on these images. We created the CGI model of the Tesla Model X to be dropped into previous shots that Andy had captured. Here are Andy’s words on keeping creative and working on new imagery in these times.

Staying productive in photography during a pandemic can be a difficult task. Realizing how important that human connection for someone like me is crucial. I assume the landscape of photography going forward could be different, how? I’m not entirely sure, but I want to remain creative and optimistic. I spent numerous hours working on my portfolio, building out my new studio, talking with my consultant, prepping for out reach. But as the weeks went by my motivation began to dwindle. Sooooo, what to do? I got together with my good pal and we talked about creating images without being around people. We utilized some of my landscapes, and people from previous shoots. I also went out and captured necessary plates to craft the images for things that where missing. Redtooth created a CGI model for the Tesla X and we put the images together. CGI, is not my preferred method of creation but it was a way to stay creative during this time. I look forward to getting back out and fulfilling that connection, having faces in the studio and traveling with my clients and meeting new ones. I hope you enjoy the images.
