I photograph a ton of twins for senior photos and honestly? It's one of my favorite sessions to do.

College graduation photos 101: Let's talk timing. ⏰

Here's what most people don't realize:
Graduation season is SHORT. Like really short. Everyone's trying to book sessions in the same 3-4 week window before commencement.

The early bookers (March):
Get their pick of dates and times. Best light. Flexibility with locations. No stress.

The beginning of April people:
Get whatever's left. Probably squeezed in. More limited options.

Mid April - likely booked but maybe I can fit you in.

CU grads - if you're thinking about doing this, start planning NOW.

CORPORATE HEADSHOT SESSIONS: I come to YOU.

Seriously. I show up at your office with all my equipment, set up a professional backdrop, and photograph your whole team on-site. Nobody has to leave. Nobody has to drive somewhere. We get it done during the workday.

Here's how it works:
📸 I set up in a conference room, empty office, wherever works
📸 Each person takes about 5 minutes (we keep it efficient)
📸 I direct everyone individually - adjust angles, fix posing, make sure they look good
📸 Your whole team gets photographed in 1-3 hours depending on size
📸 Everyone gets consistent, professional headshots

Why this matters:
Your team's headshots should look COHESIVE. Same background, same lighting, same quality. Not a random collection of photos from different years taken by different photographers.

It makes your company look put-together. Professional. Like you actually have your act together.

Get first pick of dates. Best light times. No rushing.

The May / June people...
Options get a bit more limited.

Mid Summer people...
"Can you fit me in TOMORROW?" Nope. Fully booked. Stressed.

Here's why booking early matters:
I only photograph so many seniors each summer. Once I'm full, I'm full. The people who book early get the time and attention their session deserves. The last-minute people get... well, last-minute energy.

It all starts with your HEADSHOT.

Let's fix the common mistakes I see EVERYWHERE:

❌ Photo is too far away - I can barely see your face, why are you a tiny dot?
❌ Weird crop - Why can I see someone's shoulder? Is that your wedding photo?
❌ Too casual - Your beach vacation selfie isn't it
❌ Too stiff - You look like you're being held hostage
❌ Outdated - That's not what you look like anymore and we both know it

✅ What actually works:
Your face takes up most of the frame. Clean background. Professional but approachable. Current - like actually represents you TODAY.

Here's how I make sure you get it right:
I'm hands-on during the session - adjusting angles, positioning you, making sure the shot actually works for LinkedIn. You're not guessing. We get it right the first time.

Family photo PSA: Your kids don't need to smile in EVERY photo.

Seriously. Some of my favorite family photos are the ones where the kids are laughing, making faces, being themselves - not the forced "say cheese" smile.

Here's what I do differently:

📸 I get the traditional "everyone look and smile" shot (because grandma wants it)
📸 Then we mix it up - candid moments, silly faces, real interactions
📸 The result? A mix of photos that actually feel like your FAMILY, not a stock photo catalog

Why this matters:
The photos you'll actually love and display are usually the ones where everyone's relaxed and being themselves. Not the stiff, forced ones.

My approach:
I keep things moving so kids don't get bored. We get the shots we need and then we have fun with it. Parents love the variety, kids don't hate the experience. Win-win.

3 outfits
Pick outfits that feel like YOU, not what you think senior photos "should" look like
Mix it up - one casual, one dressier, done

Avoid logos, super busy patterns, anything you'll cringe at in 5 years

What I do to help:
Before your session, I'll give you guidance on what works. During the session, I'm not making you change 47 times. We focus on making each outfit look GOOD instead of rushing through a million looks.

"I'll wait until spring when the weather's better."

I hear this ALL THE TIME. And then I show people these photos... taken in January. In Colorado.

I don't know what to do with my hands."

I hear this AT LEAST three times a week. And here's my response: "Good thing I'm super chatty and hands-on, because you're not figuring this out alone." 😂

I'm not the photographer who stands behind the camera going "okay, be natural" and then leaves you hanging. I'm actively directing you the ENTIRE time:

"Tilt your chin down just a bit. No, too much. Back up. Perfect."
"Shoulders back. Now relax them. You're too stiff."
"Put your hand here - no, HERE. Like this. Yes, that's it."

I'm talking, adjusting, repositioning, making sure every angle looks good. You're not guessing - I'm telling you exactly what to do. It's basically like having a really talkative coach who happens to have a camera ;)

20 years of photographing people has taught me that NOBODY is naturally comfortable in front of a camera. But everyone CAN look good with the right direction. That's my whole job.
