Haven’t done any food posts in ages, so my recent 48-hour trip to Japan (had to do a mileage run) will be my first back. All these are added to my tokyo guide at tokyo.rukes.com
1-2: まぐろや黒銀 築地本店🐟Tuna Shop Kurogin - I have always had this famous Tsukiji tuna spot on my todo list, but always skipped it due to visiting other usual spots.
I got the special tuna set and it is some of the best tuna outside of high-end sushi spots, so I probably will be back every trip. It’s cut fresh on one side of the stall, then the cuts are handed over to the packaging side where they are put together and placed in the refrigerated section below the cashier.
3-4: 築地きつねや - famous horumon don spot with long lines. As with other Tsukiji spots, I always skip it for my usuals.
As i’m not a big offal fan, especially because of the texture, I didn’t want to risk it and just went for the beef bowl with an egg. Small, so it’s a good size so you can still get other foods around the market.
5-6: Philly-tokyo - Been on my todo list for years, and finally stopped by. One of the most accurate cheesesteaks outside of Philly, with their own twist. Also got the crab fries to start, which were great because they were cut in a V shape!
7: SLICE of LIFE - Amazing BBQ spot, best I have been to so far in Tokyo. Pictured is a Kokusan Beef Rib, Spare Ribs and A5 Wagyu Brisket. All the meats are pre-done, then vacuum-sealed so they can be cooked to order sous vide to make them fall off the bone.
8: IYOSHI COLA 🇯🇵 イヨシコーラ - After getting some Japan Blue Jeans and waiting for them to be tailored, I saw the next street over a line for this custom craft soda spot. Ended up being very good with some unique herbal ingredients; I ended up having the default “The Dreamy Flavor”.
9: 豚大学広報部【公式】 - sliced pork belly, charcoal grilled with sauce. Simple and really good. Comes in 4 sizes too, so I was able to get a smaller one after the huge BBQ meal!
