Keep looking up, friends.
Taken on the day of the canonization of Saints Pier Giorgio & Carlo Acutis at the Cathedral in Downtown Chicago. The glass in the back was donated by an artist in Italy. It represents the tree of life, and is tinged with a darker glass. It symbolizes the transition from darkness into light as one approaches the altar. Up close, the veins of the metal resemble tree bark.
The pipe organ was donated by a wealthy widow who "wanted the ethereal music to be heard loud and clear by her late husband up in heaven." Had never been in here in many trips to Chicago over the years, but it was well worth the stop. They give 15-minute tours after every 10:30 AM and 12:30 PM Mass on Sundays. Gorgeous reliquary, too, with relics of so many of our saintly heroes, including Sts. Faustina, John Paul the Great, Catherine of Siena (Paige's girl), and many others.
