I strive for this!
The list of things I can’t control is endless.
As a self-professed control freak, I've discovered a paradox: the more I try to control the uncontrollable, the more I suffer. 🤔
Isn't it ironic? My urge to control everything actually stems from a fear of suffering if I don’t. Yet, in grasping for control, I end up creating the very chaos I hoped to avoid.
But holding onto things beyond our grasp is like trying to use spaghetti as a fishing rod – messy and pretty much useless.
However, there is a silver lining. We possess a powerful tool: the ability to adjust our focus.
When we shift our attention from what's out of our hands to what we can actually influence, something remarkable happens. We regain a sense of control - not over the world, but over ourselves. This shift not only empowers us but also paves the way for greater peace and resilience.
For example, as a drummer, I could choose to get upset about how many drummers out there play better than I do—or I could decide to spend that energy on getting out my drum and learning something new.
Both choices require the same effort, but lead to very different immediate results.
Learning to let go of what we can't change is more than just freeing; it's crucial for our well-being.
I hope you have a great day!
Be well, Jim
