After a lot of words of encouragement and an overwhelmingly, and humbling amount of positive feedback after my first showing this past Friday, I've decided to take a real stab at this photography thing and start "DPWOOD Photo" (corny I know). I love the process and I love the challenge of making the shots. More importantly I love the idea and the feeling of being able to make others happy because of something I did.

So with that being said, if anyone is looking for Holiday Card photos or simply just a great present I can help you with reproducing existing shots of mine or helping you realize that idea in your head with a custom shot please contact me. I would love to help you out!

Another train shot... (and I'm sure not the last)

The train yard behind my place has turned into my favorite subject. Had to get out there on Saturday night and take advantage of the fresh snowfall.
. May of also of been banking on the fact no one would be around to hassle me for trespassing..

Comments and criticism are much appreciated.

Headed out on my first 10th Mountain Division hut trip this weekend to Uncle Buds Cabin just Northwest of Leadville. A heavy pack and some wet boots proved to make the hike up a bit more brutal than it should've been, but none the less we had a great time! Despite the abnormally warm February weather, we were able to head out and enjoy the abundance of snow and grab some shots. Absolutely look forward to exploring some more of the hut system in the future.

Have had this one sitting around for awhile now. Taken late September near Crested Butte, there are definitely a few things that bother me about this one, which is a large part of why I've been hesitant about posting it, but overall I do enjoy the shot. I always come back to the lines on this one.

Got the chance to help out CrossFit DeCO recently and take some "interesting" personal shots of some coaches & gym members. One of my first opportunities dealing with individual compositions and lighting, but overall I'm happy with how they came out.

If anyone would like to see the rest, they should be posted soon to Crossfit Deco's FB page.

My Maroon Bells Photo.

One of the most photographed landscapes in the country, and the quintessential Colorado shot, every local photographer has a shot of the Maroon Bells. Three wind carved peaks framed by Aspen lined hills in full color, and the beautiful Maroon Lake, this is one of the most picture-esque shots you'll find, and almost an impossible photograph to mess up.

The best compositions of these peaks will come with a full range of color in the trees lining the river, the wind-carved lines in the peaks accented with snow bringing out the unique formations, and a still lake in front to provide a nice sharp reflection. I was a week too late for full color of the Aspens (the reds and oranges had just passed about a week earlier) and a week too early for the first snowfall (as I came to find out). Goes to show you again that photography is all about luck, and being in the right place at the right time.

Arriving around 4 am that morning, a solid 2+ hrs before sunrise, to no surprise I was easily about the 30th person there. I would be lying to you If I told you this wasn't expected. Colorado is a state full of photographers and tourists.

Its never been an issue though, and as cliche as it sounds, the hours out in the mountains before sunrise are quickly becoming one of my favorite things. The only light coming from the Stars and the Moon and a perfect quiet, nothing is cooler than a nice sack breakfast and a comfy spot as you wait for the sun to come up.

If you all get a chance I have attached an example of these peaks by another Denver photographer, d'Ardenne Photography. His shot, taken not even a week later, shows the peaks lined after the first Aspen snowfall of the year. The contrast and detail the snow brings out in the peaks is amazing is awesome. (On a side note, I've been following this local photographer for awhile now, and all his work is great. If you enjoy landscape photography at all please check his work out. His posts are a great follow.)

As always feedback and criticism are always welcome, and much appreciated.

These shots, and all my work seen here and on www.RX-Photo.com are available for sale. Contact me through Facebook or at [email protected].
