I'd promised you guys SOME TIME AGO to share my favorites from this adventurous snowshoeing maternity session. It took a while to defrost and get unburied, but here we are! I hope they feel as much joy as I do when they look back at these. It's miraculous that we got even one serious photo... we were laughing the entire time!

I’ll never forget our laughs during their maternity session, and that was just the beginning! Several months later, we celebrated Albert’s first birthday with this cozy, in-home session. It's so beautiful to check in with families and see how life is blossoming before them!

"We met at a coffee shop and talked and talked and I loved her company so much. I was devastated when she let me know that Birth Photography wouldn’t be in their budget. My disappointment didn’t last long. He called me in secret, asking me if it would be possible to hire me to show up AS A SURPRISE, whilst she was in active labor..." This was just the beginning.

She spotted me lingering trepidatiously in the hallway and was thrilled to see me, thinking I happened to be there for another client. You can imagine her surprise that I was there FOR HER.

It’s been a minute. The other day, I posted for the first time in over a year. Y’all made me feel so welcome. Thank you for the positive energy and kind response to me sneaking in a post with no explanation of my whereabouts.

I think a lot of us made life-altering choices during 2020. A while into the pandemic, I allowed myself space from birth work and family photography. The hospitals weren’t allowing extras in and frankly I could use some time off-call after 9 years.

I found personal freedom to travel and work on creative projects. I cared for an infant and her mama full time while slaying an impossible deadline for some creative contract work. With the promise of a permanent position, I went above and beyond my scope in every direction, only for it all to come to a halt when I reported inappropriate behavior to leadership. It impacted my husband’s career as well. That messed with my brain.

I then shifted gears and co-founded a wine company with smart people. We were able to get our paws on some excellent and rare wines from Croatian family vineyards. Doors opened. We met knowledgeable, geeky people. We’re now getting these wines into Colorado’s hippest bottle shops and restaurants. We’ve been hosting tastings and events. It’s. Been Real.

I’ve been learning, growing, thriving, and struggling. But I’m still here.

I watched many of your birth films again. Looking through the photos we took together. I am missing you. It’s been such a bummer having to refer you out, to say no to people I care about.

I will be taking a session here and there. Please forgive me if I cannot take yours. Photographer busy season is on the horizon. Turns out, boundaries and balance are important to my health. (Isn’t THAT a lesson that NEVER is over?!) One thing I can promise is that I’ll do better at staying in touch.
