During a lunar eclipse, the Moon is not completely blacked out. Instead, it has a reddish hue because some of the Sun’s rays pass around the through the edges of Earth’s thin atmosphere, and then hit the lunar surface. This celestial event has take place for billions of years-ever since the moon formed and began its orbit around Earth.
It’s interesting that I’ve never attempted to photograph a lunar eclipse, or much of the night sky for that matter, despite the fact that I’m a huge space ju**ie. That’ll change after last night.
