The Denver Photo Hikers

The Denver Photo Hikers Official page for The Denver Photo Hikers Meetup Group, a group which allows enthusiasts th Glenwood Springs, etc are other possibilities.

A group for moderate hikers who get frustrated for being in the back of other hiking Meetups, not because you are a beginner hiker, but because you are an intermediate+ hiker who likes to actually see and photograph your surroundings. Afterall, it's just as much about the journey, as it is the destination! Because who wants to hike in this beautiful state and all you're seeing is the dirt beneath

your feet?! We take hikes to places in our great state of Colorado, mostly within a day's drive, some overnights are possible. Mostly Front Range, Rocky Mountain National Park, Colorado Springs, and Summit County. For the photography aspect, it's for all levels and all types of cameras. Point n shoots, camera phones, basic DSLR's or the big time Marks, etc. It's for your enjoyment only. Photography instruction will not be provided on most hikes. The Organizers of this group are simply hiking leaders with a passion for photography and exploring who have agreed to lead people with the same passion. However, we do have a couple of organizers (Efrain for one) who are "Workshop Masters", and they will be providing photography workshops at a cost so that you can gain some good photography skills to use on our hike outings. We carpool for our hikes (which provide a great way to get to know your fellow hikers), and most of them are followed by a delicious meal & a cold heavily carbed beverage somewhere!

Sad news in Nederland. The shopping center next to the grocery store was destroyed by fire early this morning.

We once had good memories from the deck of the pizza place, where we toasted one of our regular members, Stephen, for summiting Kilimanjaro that day.

The Carousel of Happiness was thankfully spared.

Please consider donating to the GoFundMe that has been set up on behalf of the business owners and d their employees to help them get through this catastrophic event:

AN EXPERT FALL COLORS PREDICTION FOR COLORADO:

" 'The aspens look amazing in our highest elevations," said Dan West with the Colorado State Forest Service. 'I think we’re going to have a great show this year.'

West is one of the few people who has seen every tree in the state this summer. In collaboration with the U.S. Forest Service, he flies an aerial tree health survey every summer. They scan, photograph and analyze all 24 million forested acres of Colorado, including the aspen trees.

He said that most of the aspen stands are showing six inches or more of growth this year, which is a sign of great health. Healthy trees should equal great gold color in the fall.

He credits a perfect weather formula. A sunny September, preceded by a cool summer, and a very slow snowmelt.

'I really do think we’re going to be towards the end of September,' he said. 'The last week and maybe lasting through the first week of October.'

He said a long-lasting peak of 10 to 14 days is also attributed to the healthy leaves. However, a high wind event during that time period or a deep freeze could cause the leaves to fall off the trees quicker, so don't wait too long to see the display.

That white stuff on the peaks shouldn’t affect the aspens because most of the snow so far has fallen above treeline."

The perfect weather conditions this year will likely lead to the most vibrant display of fall color in several years. However, the peak is expected to be late.

Press Release: https://www.jeffco.us/CivicAlerts.aspx?AID=2109

Original Post: July 26 at 12 PM:
The JCSO is warning hikers in the Evergreen/Conifer areas of an at-large sexual predator. The unidentified male suspect is targeting female hikers in the Conifer and Evergreen areas. Deputies have taken several reports to date, where a male suspect confronted lone female hikers along trails in Flying J Ranch Park and one incident at Alderfer Three Sisters Park. The first report involving this suspect occurred on April 3rd, where a naked suspect approached a female hiker and touched her buttocks. The suspect fled the area but was not located by law enforcement. On June 13th, a naked suspect confronted a female victim and began ma********ng. Each time, the suspect’s behavior has become more aggressive, contacting three different women in one day on July 18th, in which the suspect fondled two victims, masturbated, and engaged in sexual conversation. On July 24th, the suspect confronted a female hiker while ma********ng, and then grabbed the victim and tried to rip off her clothing.

The suspect is described as a white male, 20-30 years old, fit/athletic build with dark colored hair. He has carried a dark-colored backpack in some cases. In each incident, the suspect has run off into the woods, avoiding capture.

The sheriff’s office is seeking input from the public to help identify the suspect, as well as identify other potential victims. Please call our tip line at 303-271-5612 to report any additional information.
