Welcome to Part 1 of Mastering Manual Mode! Over this four-part series, I’m breaking Manual Mode down into simple terms so you can stop guessing at your camera settings and actually understand what you're changing.

Manual Mode gives YOU control over three major settings:
📸 Shutter Speed — how long your shutter is open
📸 Aperture — how wide your lens opening is
📸 ISO — how your camera handles brightness
Together, these settings control your exposure AND have a huge impact on how your final image looks.
You don't have to memorize everything overnight. We're going one setting at a time.

Snow on your wedding day? In Colorado, I say embrace it. ❄️🤍

This beautiful elopement at Red Rocks Amphitheatre turned into the dreamiest winter scene. The snow falling against the red sandstone was incredible, and these two were so much fun to photograph in the middle of it all.

Colorado weather can surprise us, but sometimes those unexpected moments create the photographs you could never have planned.

A little spontaneous family photo adventure in Crested Butte! 🍂🤎

My husband, two of our kids, and I found a beautiful park with incredible mountain views and golden fall colors. Naturally, I couldn't resist taking a few photos! 📸

We ended up laughing, playing, hanging upside down, and capturing the kind of memories that mean the most. Sometimes the best family photos happen when you stop worrying about perfect poses and just have fun together.

We stopped for just a moment, and the golden evening light was too beautiful to pass up. I grabbed my camera and captured this smile that I never want to forget!

A bookstore, a coffee shop, and a spontaneous photo session in Breckenridge! 📚☕️

We stumbled across this cozy little spot while exploring Breckenridge, Colorado, and knew we had to take a few photos by the bookshelves. Sometimes the most unexpected locations inspire the most creative portraits.

I love finding ways to turn everyday spaces into beautiful backdrops, whether it's a bookstore, coffee shop, or a mountain overlook. This session was so much fun!

If manual mode feels like learning another language, this one is for you. 📸💕

I put together a beginner friendly guide to ISO, aperture, and shutter speed that breaks down what each setting actually does, how they work together through the exposure triangle, and some simple starting settings for portraits, families, moving kids, golden hour, and more.

The biggest thing I want new photographers to know is that these settings are starting points, not rules. Your light, lens, camera, movement, and creative vision will always matter.
