Nature’s Heart

While exploring Coyote Gulch last month I came across one of the natural bridges that cast a perfect reflection to complete the heart. It was too good to pass up, especially with the it framing the freshly green trees in the background.

Utah Rt 12

The drive from Capitol Reef National Park down to Escalante, Utah is one of coolest drives I’ve been on in a while. The road winds up through red rock desert over a mountain pass with stunning views as you drop down the other side. This particular section just outside Escalante feels like you’re driving across a dragon’s spine with the sides falling off on each side into canyons. We drove back across it a few hours before sunset which gave this awesome stripped pattern with the shadows.

Jewels of the Andes

Finishing up 2025 with my last completed photo for the year and one I’ve been dragging my feet on to finish. This incredible scene was captured with a combination of my drone and camera.
Due to the hike up to the main viewpoint being pretty sketchy and quite the workout climbing up to 15000ft, and I decided to take a pre-sunrise hike just a bit of the way down the trail, accompanied by our good dog Dank, and fly our drones up to capture the foreground.
Even that almost wasn’t enough to capture the full expanse of the lakes as I was battling drone RC connectivity with it being several kilometers away and a kilometer up. It ended up working out though and we caught gorgeous blue hour conditions with only a few clouds around the mountains to allow for this awesome blend.
The Milky Way alignment here is true as it does arch entirely over these incredible mountains but probably not quite perfect due to the 2 types of photography used.

“Alien Rain”

Finally back with some new landscape astro ✨ this last weekend I traveled down to New Mexico to watch the Geminid meteor shower and it put on an amazing show! There were huge fireballs across the sky all night long.
I’ve wanted an astro shot from this location for a while and this time of year had the perfect alignment with Orion facing away from the radiant point of the shower to get the “raining” effect of the meteors.

Comet C/2025 A6 (Lemmon)

This is my second go at capturing this beautiful comet with my telescope. The ion tail (the blue part) is so cool to see changing every night. This image was captured early last night, shortly after sunset. I’m hoping the skies here in Colorado clear up so I can get some longer focal length landscape shots with it soon!

Happy to share that my Cottonwood Pass photo (the first one) was awarded Silver in the Astrophotography Prize contest last week placing in the top 25! My other 4 entries also earned Silver!
I’ve only entered a few contests but it’s very rewarding to see my photos rate so well against some other incredible images.
Congratulations to the other photographers!

Jirishanca’s Majesty

On arguably the coldest morning of the trek I woke up well before sunrise to revisit this scene I’d picked out the night before. I was hoping for a clear reflection in the pool off of the main stream but found that it had frozen over slightly. I was still able to get some of the mountains reflecting and ended up with some cool ice texture instead.

Welcome to the Cactus Garden 🌵

During the stay at our last campsite for the trek we found this hillside absolutely covered with these fuzzy cacti. Don’t let their fuzzy appearance fool you, they’re definitely still sharp 😂 they all lined up perfectly with these distinct peaks that had the Milky Way rising over them.
