A finished project represents months, sometimes years, of decisions that most people will never see.
The materials that were considered, the pieces that were sourced, the finishes that were chosen, the art that was created specifically for the space. Eventually, all of those individual decisions come together to create a home.
This home designed by Jacqueline Craine is such a beautiful example of that. The warmth and softer neutrals carry throughout the home, while sculptural pieces and custom art she sourced give each space its own character.
That’s one of the reasons I think photographing completed projects is so important for designers, architects and builders.
Your portfolio shouldn’t just show what you can do. It should become a record of what you’ve already created.
The wide shots document the space as a whole, but the detail shots preserve all of those smaller decisions that made the project what it is. Together, those images become something you can use for your website, social media, press and future clients, but they’re also a record of your work long after you’ve moved on to the next project.
Because once a project is finished and the home starts being lived in, you may never get the opportunity to document it being as polished as it was.
