Over the weekend, I climbed the high dune in Great Sand Dune National Park at night under high winds and low visibility conditions in order to enjoy this magnificent blue hour. I haven’t gotten around to post processing most of the images yet, but here’s one.

“Does this world belong to us, or do we belong to it?” — DUNE

Early this morning I completed my midnight ascent and reached the summit of the High Dune at 0455 local time.

Carrying my backpack, 8 liters of water, and camera equipment. Sustained winds of 25 mph with gusts in excess of 40 mph. I backtracked 3 times due to route finding difficulties in low visibility conditions and crawled several hundred feet during extreme wind gusts. I navigated most of my route using short sight lines and landscape contours. Photos to come. Stay tuned!
