7 Years ago today, I asked for forgiveness instead of permission. I captured the first launch from the new NASA Headquarters rooftop building.
While range control flew overhead with their helicopter and lit me up and while KSC police were banging on the rooftop several minutes before launch. I held the only master key to the building as
I was the project manager, and it wasn't NASA's building yet.
During that time of contemplating whether to answer the door or not, I knew I was outside the require range safety.
With my mind racing, I decided they would love the photo regardless and it would be worth the risk of losing my credentials.
In the end, I didn't lose my credentials, but I was told no media would ever be allowed up there during launches and that I hold the only photo from that rooftop ever.
