Jacobson's organ isn't a musical instrument. It's a special chemoreceptor snakes use to learn more about the world around them. It's not quite smell and not quite taste, but something else. They flick out their tongues and bring molecules like pheromones into the organ on the roof of their mouths. They can use this information to find prey, avoid predators, and communicate with other members of their species.

Gator love. The only time you're going to see two alligators together like this without attacking each other is during mating season in spring. Judging from their size, the male is on the right, the female on the left. If they did indeed make sweet gator love, their offspring should be hatching within the next couple of weeks. Mom will protect them for the next year or so; Dad will eat them if he gets the chance.
