As a mom and creative, my heart yearns to deeply feel every moment and not forget. I want to swim in the sweet moments, witnessing them pass doesn’t seem like enough.
So the feelings are solidified and saved in my soul in drawings, writing and photographs…. Only when I have the capacity. Which for years was non existent.
And when my kids were babies I was struggling to get through the day, let alone create anything.
Looking back there’s so much I would have done differently. But I’ve learned to continually let that go and see gratitude for all I did in the days of survival.
That season has given me the gift of perspective. I see now where I am is still the gift, a gift from my future self to slow down and see that my babies are still babies, and also big kids RIGHT NOW.
I am prioritizing creativity in my life as a mother, and choosing to capture the moments that before I would have been distant… too overwhelmed to take photos of other than an iPhone snap here or there.
I invite you to join me in slowing down and allowing yourself to romanticize the messy reality of raising humans. Take the photos. Be artistic. Be creative. Ignore the fears. Ignore the thoughts that tell you “if only my life was more aesthetic”. Say no to perfection and create imperfect images of your imperfect life before your kids are far bigger than they are right this moment.
