Attic Classic: The band Can't Say rode in from Guilderland on the third wave ska revival of the late '80s and 90's. Originally a metal band with a couple demo cassettes under their belts, they gradually incorporated the off-beat ska rhythms and walking bass lines with the harder edge of punk and alternative rock, becoming among the bands early on to map out a way to mix the genres together.

Their self-titled debut in 1993 solidified their sound and the core band members of Albie von Schaaf on vocals and guitar, Ian Cipkowski on bass, and Bill Ketzer on drums. For 1995's 'The Kings of Crunchska,' the album added two tenor and an alto sax to the mix.

The Attic Classic is "Boy's Life," the second track off the "Kings" CD.

The Attic Classic: BOBBIE VAN DETTA is not a household name in the Capital Region. It’s possible that is because he’s been hiding in plain sight for many years as part of the local music scene fabric. An accomplished vocalist, guitarist, and bassist, he’s performed with several high-profile regional acts as well as nationally acclaimed musicians and bands. He’s been called in by many artists to lend his talents in the recording studio, working in a wide range of styles – including commercials, and as a jingle vocalist.

He did find time many years ago as a singer/songwriter to produce an album of his own songs. In 1999 Bobbie released β€˜My New Hero,’ a 9-track album which showcased his musical abilities. The songs bridged across mainly pop and rock, his expressive, warm tenor accompanied by his guitar and bass work. On the parts not performed by him were several high-profile guest local musicians and singers, creating on whole a dynamic album.

The Local 518 Attic Classic is "Doesn’t Anybody Have a Heart" from 'My New Hero.'

At 11:30pm πŸ•§ there's a with Amanda Case (aka Amanda Leigh) followed by The Figgs ("I Need A Reason") + The Decadent Royals ("Blood Red Moan") to fill out the hour

The Attic Classic: Blotto, formed from the ashes of The Star-Spangled Washboard Band, quickly earned a following in Albany and far beyond. Their clever, catchy and humorous songs covered a wide variety of music styles, and their live shows were events not to be missed. The band hung together until 1984, after releasing their final album of musical parody, 'Combo Akimbo,' in 1982.

In 2020, the band was inducted to the NY Capital Region Thomas Edison Music Hall of Fame, which honors those who have made outstanding contributions to, or significant impacts on the evolution, development, and perpetuation of the music industry.

Late in 2020, the remaining band members began to release 'The Blotto Live Archive,' newly discovered recordings of complete live shows, beginning with one recorded on Long Island at a club called My Father's Place on June 26 1980. "I Wanna Be A Lifeguard" was becoming a hit, Blanche was still touring with the boys, and the place was packed and rowdy, apparently overrun by upstaters.

Try this at home! - As you listen, close your eyes and pretend you’re part of the upstate contingent in the crowd as Broadway introduces Sarge and the teenage love and death classic, "My Baby's The Star of a Driver's Ed Movie," for the Attic Classic.

At 11:30pm πŸ•§ there's an At Home 518 Session with alexdgoldberg. Plus, there's a song by Joe Mansman and The Midnight Revival Band ("Dead As It Gets") to fill out the Local 518 hour.

The Attic Classic: It's 1996. Four guys from high school in Kinderhook decide to start a rock band, get into the Albany punk scene, playing shows. Following line-up changes and a renewed desire to prove to themselves, F*Timmi was reborn. Now calling Albany home, major record label interest in the band was coming from all over the industry. However, the horrible events of September 11, 2001 put any talks of a contract off to the side.

From that side-lined brush with something big, the band decided to step back from touring, and focus on recording what became 'The Shocker' EP, released in the summer of 2002. That got them some commercial radio exposure. But still not signed to a major label, they doubled-down and wrote and recorded the best songs they could, releasing the full length album 'The Middle Class' in 2003. "First In, Last Out" from that album is the Attic Classic.

At 11:30pm πŸ•§ there's a Local 518 At Home Session with Dominic Orlando, plus there's songs by Sandy McKnight ("Borderline of Love") + Gordon St. ("Motion of the Ocean") to fill out the Local 518 hour.
