It's such an honor to have had one of my images receive 3rd place in the Grand Imaging Awards last night at Imaging USA! I am so glad that I am ending on a high note here. :)

As this year comes to an end it is with a mixture of emotions that I am announcing the close of Modello Fine Portraits. I've worked hard at this and will be going out on a high note receiving Master of Photography designation next month from the Professional Photographers Association!

My constant health roller coaster makes it impossible to schedule sessions along with mobility issues keeping me from being able to move equipment along with not being able to get easily up and down to photograph.

I have loved the time I've spent photographing and will always continue to do what I can for my own personal enjoyment but am simply no longer able to do it for the general public. Thank you to everyone that has supported this fun endeavor and for all the encouragement I've received from fantastic friends I've made in this industry.

Kelly Willis of Modello Fine Portraits was honored by peers and jurors for high-quality photography.

Kelly Willis of Modello Fine Portraits in Deer Park, Texas, was named a Silver Medalist during Professional Photographers of America’s 2014 International Photographic Competition.

A panel of 45 eminent jurors from across the United States selected the top photographs from nearly 5,000 total submitted entries at Gwinnett Technical College in Georgia. Judged against a standard of excellence, just over 1,800 images were selected for the General Collection and 918 (roughly 18 percent) were selected for the esteemed Loan Collection—the best of the best. The Loan Collection images will all be published in the much-anticipated “Loan Collection” book and over 200 selected General Collection images will be published in the “Showcase” book by Marathon Press.

The level of the award is determined by how many of those four images receive the highest possible honor: acceptance into the PPA Loan Collection, which is displayed at photographic exhibitions, conventions and other photography events. Willis was named a Silver Medalist, meaning that one of Willis' four merited images entered the PPA Loan Collection and three of her images were selected for Showcase. In 2014, she was one of only 104 Silver Medalists.

I was recently commissioned to do a painting by the wife of a deceased judge after 2 fellow photographers referred me. The courthouse where he was a judge wants a large portrait of him to hang in remembrance....the only problem was they didn't have any portraits suitable. I was sent a snapshot that had been kept on a desk under a glass top and it had damage from moisture. I painted a portrait of him, am printing it at 24x30 on canvas and it's being finished with oils. I hope it's something he would have been proud of. I created this little collage on my iPad but this is the original I had to go by and my painting.....
