Hello all,
This is a huge, scary step for me. But it's too important to not be said. And as today is National Coming Out Day, I couldn't think of a better time to post this.
I've long debated if I should advertise as an LGBTQ+ friendly business. I want people to know I provide a safe, inclusive environment. But what if I advertise this and it drives clients away? That fear has won in the past.
Today, I'm not letting it win. Today, I am saying loudly that I am not only an LGBTQ+ friendly business, but also an LGBTQ+ owned business. Effective immediately, I will be including in all advertising that I am an LGBTQ+ friendly business. Because I don't ever want a potential client to have to ask or to not contact me because they're too afraid of exclusion.
Posting this terrifies me. Because I myself am not out. Only those closest to me know. And I am never out at work. But now my public business page, which I am linked to, is out. And anyone, including coworkers, could see this. I know posting this is a giant step, but I have many more to take on a personal level.
I know that fear is not the answer. I know that silence is not the answer. I know that the only way we progress is by having the difficult conversations. I may still be fearful, but I will no longer be silenced.
