The art on Dayanni’s hands took hours. It deserved its own moment. The multi day celebration and the henna shined at every event in every outfit!

Henna (mehndi) is one of my favorite details to photograph at a wedding. Every swirl is drawn by hand the day before, and by the wedding morning it has bloomed into this deep, rich stain. They say the darker the henna, the deeper the love. Looking at this set, I’d say the saying holds.

Her hathphool and chooda completed the look, gold against red, tradition against celebration.

What’s in your welcome bag?
If you’re planning a wedding weekend, the welcome bag is your opening line, it tells your guests exactly what kind of weekend they’re in for before the first toast is even poured.
Four real welcome bags I’ve photographed, four totally different weekends:

1. The Coastal Classic — Cape Cod chips, saltwater taffy, oyster shuckers, a Martha’s Vineyard cookbook, and cookies shaped like sailboats and beach cottages. When your wedding is on the coast, the bag should taste like it.

2. The Vermont Inn Weekend — a hand-drawn venue map of the Wilburton Inn, local w**e, maple caramel chocolate, and a s’mores kit for the bonfire. Practical, local, and nobody got lost.

3. The Hometown Newspaper — Nick and Nicole turned their bag into the “Wedding Times,” complete with their favorite Yellow Springs spots, happy-tears tissues, and a recovery kit. Personal and completely them.

4. The Pretty and Practical — sparkling sips, caramel popcorn, candy bites, and a monogrammed jute tote. Simple, sweet, and gone by checkout.

The formula behind all four: something local, something practical, something personal, and one thing they’ll actually keep.

Some frames just hit different on film.

A few of my favorite moments from recent wedding days — the in-between ones nobody poses for. Electric dance floor for guest to turn up. A canoe dressed in blooms. A couple on a rooftop or out in a field. Candlelight doing all the heavy lifting at dinner.

Film is where I started, and it’s still the heartbeat of how I photograph a wedding: honest color, real grain, nothing rushed. Digital gives you everything. Film gives you the feeling.

POV: you marry your best friend and he dips you mid-aisle while your favorite people absolutely lose it.

Sandrine + Marshall’s Vermont weekend at The Old Tavern at Grafton was everything — a wildflower arch, hydrangeas for days, golden light, ch*****ne on the patio, dinner worth the trip alone (blackberry salad with Vermont brie, yes please), and a dance floor under the disco ball.

This one swept us off our feet. Literally. (see slide 2)

I lead every wedding day with all five senses — this one tasted like Vermont brie and sounded like a packed dance floor.

Getting ready in the morning can be the most rushed through part of a wedding day. Who wouldn’t want to when you are marrying the love of your life! Allowing a slower pace for the morning no matter the idea of how the morning looks to you is a piece of advice I tell all my couples. Spend it with the ones you love.

Emily surrounded herself with so much love in the morning. Calm moments with soft giggles flowed from room to room.

The details matter. You spent months choosing them, so let’s make sure they’re remembered.

Your stationery, custom drink menu, seating chart, handwritten notes, and all the little touches that make your wedding feel like *you* deserve to be photographed, too.

An important tip: allow time in your day for us to photograph and create art with your details. Tell us all things details when we ask!

We can’t photograph what we don’t know about. If there’s a detail you spent extra time, thought, or money creating, let us know so we can make sure it gets documented.

Because years from now, those little details will bring the whole day rushing back.

Imagine being a stem on a full bloomed hydrangea bush. You’re blended and interconnected with each and every color. You lean back taking in the floral aroma that swirls around your body.

Martha’s Vineyard has a way with letting you fall in love with every step you take while on the island.

At a pier the ocean air breezes on by. The fresh seafood from the restaurant on the corner draws you in as it’s close to lunch time.

Even the ducks have way of beauty about them as they paddle around the boats. A little family with babies staying in a line, while others swim around with the fish.
