Back in June I traveled to Bald K**b, West Virginia to spend the night up at West Virginia's most remote and isolated Fire Tower & Watchman's Cabin with my friend Ian. We documented the entire trip and for the past few months I have been working on a video to retell the story of the adventure, and now it is ready to view on my YouTube channel!

This weekend I saw that there would be a solar storm that could potentially cause the Northern Lights to be visible in the lower 48, so I made a last minute trip out to the Dolly Sods in hopes of capturing even just a glimpse of the lights, which I did, but I also captured so much more! This landscape is truly incredible, and every time I come I always find something new to check out!

Last night's sunset atop Sharp Top Mountain did not disappoint! While I was there, I had the pleasure of meeting Tim Lewis after he finished his 100th summit of the mountain! Congratulations to him for that monumental achievement!

Sunset at Spruce Mountain 🌄

During my journey through the Adirondacks I had ambitions to visit 10 fire towers, and if it was accomplished, the total number of fire towers I had ever visited would be at 50. It ended up that I was in fact able to get out to ten towers, and this one was the tenth of the trip, and the fiftieth fire tower I have visited overall! I am incredibly thankful for the blessing that it had been to be able to travel to this many towers and experience their beautiful views.

On this hike I was able to catch up with a friend I hadn't seen in many years, and also made some new ones at the top of the tower! What a great way to celebrate visiting 50 fire towers!

The Lonely Sentinel ⛰️

This tower has stood for over a hundred years, and now is a popular hiking destination. I guess I got lucky when I went, because by the time the sun had gone down, .axtell and I were the only ones on the mountain. As the light slowly faded away, the landscape was transformed, and I captured these vistas from the air. This tower is small, but is instantly recognizable from afar, and is an iconic sight!

Forest Immersion🌲

While I was up in the Adirondacks last month I was joined my my friend .axtell, and am very thankful for his company on the trip. We had an awesome time, and got some epic photos and videos.

On our first hike up to a fire tower we were surrounded by this luscious, green forest, and it was strikingly beautiful. We went around a corner and saw the sunlight hitting perfectly through the trees, I knew we had to get some shots, and that is what led to these pictures!

Be sure to check out Sam's profile to see the pictures he snapped with his film camera!

Gateway to the Adirondacks ⛰️

When I first made it into the Adirondacks, I stopped in the small town of Speculator. I stopped for a quick moment to eat and also fly my drone, and this incredible view was right behind the town. I was blown away, and crazy views like this were everywhere I looked for the rest of the trip!

"He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will abide in the shadow of the Almighty."
Psalm 91:1 ESV

I've found myself being more and more overwhelmed with all that is going on around me. This summer so far has been great, but very, very busy. I long to return to the mountains to rest in God's creation. These photos are from late April, around the time of final exams. I needed rest, and I found it at this stream in the mountains. God has created a beautiful world, and despite its fallen state due to our sin, the beauty that remains points to a future when all things will be set right, when the Lord has returned. If you're seeking peace, yes, you may find momentary rest in a comforting space, but true rest, true peace, and true life is found in Jesus Christ and the work He accomplished on the Cross. One day He will return in glory, and set all things right. If you do not know the transforming power of God, turn to Him, and you will find salvation from sin through Jesus Christ and true rest and refuge in His presence. God is so good!

Flourishing Flow 🌫️💧

I had a fantastic time capturing these aerial perspectives of one of the longest cascades in the Appalachian Mountains! I was short on time when I visited, so I was only able to send up the drone. Next time I hope to visit and hike the whole trail to capture it from the ground!

Deep in the mountainous terrain of West Virginia lies what I would argue is the most unique rock formation in the entire Appalachian Range - Seneca Rocks.

This massive rock face is 800 feet tall, and is truly a majestic sight to behold. It's another fantastic example of God's glory revealed in creation!
