So You by Erica Sue My goal as a photographer, is to capture the images that will stay with you long after you've stopped looking at them. Contact me, and we'll figure it out.

My photography career started out with me as that family member / friend who can be trusted to take the photos you want sent to you after an event. Eventually realized I wanted to share this passion beyond family and friends. My full time job is in Project Management and Quality for Medical Devices, but when I'm not working, I always love to capture a special moment in a photo. I'm laid back, fun

to work with, and will make you laugh (I do want photos of you smiling). When I'm not working, taking, or editing photos, I like to attend boot camp classes, yoga classes, swim, read, and sew (you will find some Sew You by Erica Sue posts on the blog too). I am available for any type of event photography from birthday parties and baby/bridal showers to rehearsal dinners, corporate events, Bar/Bat Mitzvahs, Quinces, and Weddings. Esther’s Bat Mitzvah weekend began at the Thursday morning minyan at B’nai Aviv in Weston, where she carried the Torah and the guys welcomed her into the club in the warmest way. It was such a sweet moment to witness. We followed with a relaxed mock mitzvah session on Thursday night, capturing all the pre‑Shabbat details before her Saturday morning service.

The celebration on Saturday night took place at the Old Davie School, transformed into a full W***y Wonka themed party. It was colorful, whimsical and full of personality, the perfect backdrop for Esther and her friends to dance, laugh and celebrate. The whole night had that joyful, candy‑coated energy that fit her so well.

Jake’s Bar Mitzvah pre‑shoot took us to the colorful Wynwood Walls in Miami, one of my favorite places to photograph because every session becomes its own little adventure. I love the discovery of the neighborhood, how each corner offers something new, and how the whole experience becomes collaborative and creative. When you’re having fun, it shows in your photos, and this family had fun. It’s written all over the images.

This is their second mitzvah with me, and seeing Landon again stopped me in my tracks. He has gotten so big. One of the things I love most about photographing Bar and Bat Mitzvahs is getting to witness that growth over the years. It’s such a privilege to be invited back into a family’s story as the kids grow into themselves.

There’s also something extra special about this family for me. My mom taught their dad in third grade, so documenting these milestones feels full circle in the sweetest way. As a South Florida Bar Mitzvah photographer, I love capturing celebrations and pre‑shoots in Miami, Boca Raton, Hollywood and beyond, and I’m always honored to be part of these moments.

Liora’s Bat Mitzvah at Temple Beth El in Boca Raton was filled with a warmth you could feel instantly. Her family’s energy was bright and palpable, and Liora reflected every bit of it. She carried herself with confidence throughout her service, smiled so easily and showed a poise well beyond her years. Watching her with her sister was especially sweet, loving and completely natural.

The celebration continued with a red carpet entrance that set the tone for a joyful, high energy night. DJ Pure Energy with MC Andre kept the room buzzing from the moment guests walked in, and Liora truly shined in the middle of it all. Joe Martinez of MJ Events and Promos brought the Broadway theme to life with décor that felt fun, immersive and perfectly matched to the family’s spirit.

When Hailey first stepped out of the car, she gave me a look that said she wasn’t quite sure about this whole photo shoot thing. After a quick pep talk about being herself and just letting the camera see her, everything shifted. Hailey warmed up beautifully, and before long she was laughing, moving with ease, and showing off her personality in the most natural way.

The session turned into something really special. Hailey took direction so well, but more importantly, she let herself shine. The light at Tree Tops Park was absolutely stunning, streaming through the trees as we explored together. Every turn seemed to reveal another pocket of golden glow, and Hailey matched it with her own radiance.

I’m so looking forward to celebrating the big event in the weeks ahead. Carly’s Bat Mitzvah day was full of joy, personality, and celebration. We started with pre-service portraits and a lovely luncheon at Temple Sinai of North Dade, surrounded by family and friends. Carly looked radiant in her service dress, and the energy was already building for the evening celebration.

Later that day, the party continued at PlugIn Karaoke in Gulfstream Park, where Carly’s vibrant spirit truly came alive. After some fun portraits in her formal dress in the colorful, high-energy space, she changed into her custom Bat Mitzvah sweatshirt and leggings and hit the stage. Singing, dancing, and handing out fun prizes, Carly made sure her guests had an unforgettable night.

Matty’s bar mitzvah fell on Labor Day Monday, which meant we had the rare opportunity to photograph the service itself, a meaningful way to begin the celebration. Held at Chabad Aventura, the building was absolutely stunning. The sanctuary was bustling when we arrived, so we started with portraits in the elegant corridors, which turned out to be the perfect backdrop for this milestone moment. The service was beautiful, with heartfelt speeches and a warm energy throughout. Rabbi Adi came down from Chabad Monterra in Cooper City to lead the ceremony, and his presence added something truly special.

From there, the party came to life with thoughtful touches and vibrant energy. Matty’s mom led the charge on decor, with support from event planner Stephanie of Cutie Patootie Creations. DJ Pure Energy kept the crowd moving, with MC Andres bringing the hype. Food Art Catering served up a delicious spread, and Sofia from Luna Entertainment brought the fun with games and a photobooth that kept guests smiling all afternoon.

It was a joy to document this celebration and witness the love surrounding Matty as he stepped into this new chapter. Linda and Marc tied the knot at the Jubilee Ballroom in Pembroke Pines, surrounded by their daughters, siblings, local aunts, uncles, cousins, and plenty of familiar faces. A few relatives I hadn’t seen since before covid made the trip down from New York, along with a group of Linda’s lifelong friends who still think of me as the little girl from way back when. It was a joy to reconnect and celebrate such a meaningful moment with them, alongside the rest of our South Florida crew.

Since I was family this time, I stepped back from the camera and let Alekandra from Nine One Four & Co. shoot on behalf of So You by Erica Sue. She captured it all: the chuppah, the challah, the cake, and even a surprise birthday moment for Jordan. The garter toss and bouquet toss both ended up on the floor, which probably means no one else is rushing to get married anytime soon. Cousin Vicki officiated the ceremony, carrying on a beautiful family tradition started by her father, Uncle Lester, who married so many of our loved ones over the years. His presence was deeply felt, along with Grandma and Poppy (Linda’s parents) and the rest of the great aunts and uncles who’ve shaped our family’s story. They were with us in spirit, and we know they would’ve been proud.

There’s something extra special about photographing someone you know outside the lens. I met Francesca at the gym - strong, focused, and full of grit. So when she asked So You by Erica Sue to document her PhD graduation party, I was deeply honored. While I was helping my son move into college (cue the proud tears), my incredible team stepped in to capture Francesca’s milestone with the same heart and creative vision we bring to every shoot.

Kaia’s Bat Mitzvah began with a heartfelt mock service at Congregation B’nai Torah in Boca Raton, where she and her family radiated joy in beautifully coordinated outfits. The energy was warm, positive, and full of love—setting the tone for a weekend to remember.

The celebration continued at Pavilion Grille, marking the final mitzvah event at this beloved Boca venue. We’ll miss Elizabeth Stark Perez and the unforgettable celebrations she brought to life over the years. Kaia’s party embraced a Broadway theme, complete with an elevator entrance that made her grand arrival feel like opening night. Dressed in a stunning red outfit, Kaia truly was the star of the show, shining from start to finish.

A sweet dance routine with her dad added a personal touch, and the candy bar was a hit with guests of all ages. From the signage to the spirit, every detail reflected Kaia’s personality—including the clever “I ❤️ KD” nod to the iconic NYC logo.

Jenna’s Bat Mitzvah was a two-day celebration filled with meaningful moments, incredible food, and plenty of fun! Mazal Tov Caryn Meinbach and family! The weekend began with a beautiful Saturday morning service at Temple Beth Am in Jupiter, FL, followed by a lovely luncheon where family and friends gathered to honor this special milestone.

On Sunday afternoon, the party continued at Blackbird Modern Asian, where every detail made the celebration unforgettable. The unique decor, including a stunning light-up tree, set the perfect atmosphere. The food was fantastic, the bar drinks were gorgeous, and the desserts, especially the mochi, were a hit!

Of course, the real fun came with the creative energy of Jenna’s guests! A giant inflatable horse became the unexpected star of the party, making its way to the photo booth, soaring through the air, and even being used for limbo. Inflatable microphones kept the energy high as guests lip-synced their way through the afternoon. To top it all off, guests went home with towels and sun shirts, the perfect summer-ready favors!
